Login screen (SOLVED)

Good morning, I have a login screen question, is there a way to list the names of all the users rather than having to type in the user name and the password, similar to the Ubuntu desktop? I have tried several of the themed login screens but they will not list the users. Any suggestions appreciated....

File Saving

Good morning, Is there a way to save a file to more than one location? Currently all documents (Open Office) are saved in the Documents folder in Home folder. Is there a way to simultaneously save it to the Dropbox or Ubuntu One folder also? If not is there a way to change the directory to which the...

Go to package manager, search for adobe flash, uninstall anything there. Then download adobe 10.1. This worked for me.

Password Reset Question

Good Morning, I have what I hope is a simple question. I built a Mint 8 desktop for my daughter & grandkids; they used it for a short time before going back to their old Windows machine. Now the Windows machine is dead and they want to use the Mint system, problem is neither they or myself remem...

Re: Which Desktop Version Do You Prefer? Vote Here

I voted for both of the Gnome desktops because I use both 32 & 64 bit editions. I will say I like the look of KDE slightly better, but there have been severe functionality issues with every KDE version I tried.

Virtual HDD size

Good Morning, I have Mint 8 installed with Mint4Win (updated from Mint 7) it has been working flawlessly for several months. I am now getting a message that my HDD (the virtual Mint 7 one) is low on space. I installed it using the default setting for the HDD 8GB I think. Is there any way to increase...

Re: Dual Boot - Windows 7 & Helena 8 on ThinkPad x100e

I wanted to do the same thing, but I decided to try it in VMWare first. Installed Windows 7 (yours would be pre-installed) Allowed Mint to install along side of it and used this to control the boot order http://www.intowindows.com/download-easybcd-for-windows-7/ It worked for me. If you but the lapt...

Re: Linux needs to master hardware to beat Windows

I have read a lot of good points here, but lets face it Linux will NEVER beat Windows. It works better, it is just as easy to use as Windows; it is free!! That is probably the biggest reason it will never beat Windows. Big bucks corporate america will never allow it to happen. I have been using Mint...

Re: How do I install Dropbox, Mint 8 Gnome?

Are you sure you are downloading the correct one? Wrong architecture usually means 32 bit or 64 bit selected wrong. I have Dropbox on both my 64 & 32 bit Mint 8 systems and had no problems. Sorry if this doesn't help, but I'm kind of new to it myself.
Good luck,

Re: Installing Mint 8

OEM install may be one of the options, it is in the Ubuntu Ultimate Edition. He should try to re-install but check the options carefully. If you think Mint 8 is getting bloated try Ubuntu 9.10 or Ultimate Edition (3.1GB download). I beleive it contains every bit of software available, I am suprised ...

Re: dual boot - fresh install

I did the upgrade rather then full install on my Vista/Mint 7 dual boot. The upgrade went fine, but it will take a considerable amount of time. It's been a week and no problems yet.

Re: Linux Mint 8 "Helena" released!

I too usually burn a disc and do a fresh install, but this was a bit different. Mint 8 didn't include Mint4Win, since I am still new to Linux thats how I install it. I did a full install a while ago, allowing Mint to set up the partitions & allowing me to dual boot with Windows, well that worked...

Re: Toshiba/Cimpiz issues

I am pretty new to this but had a similar problem. Did you go to the the Compiz Settings Manger? Make sure desktop cube & rotate cube are enabled, & desktop wall is disabled. The filmstrip you are seeing sounds like the wall is enabled not the cube.

Compiz Cube Question (Solved)

This is not a major issue but if I can find the solution I will be very happy. I did an inplace upgrade from Mint 7 to Mint 8 last night. It took a long time but almost everything works perfectly. The one thing I am having a problem with is the Compiz Cube. The rotating cube was disabled during the ...
