can't find usb gard drive

Hello All Merry Christmas. I have an older lenovo T400 laptop. I also have a 2.5 inch disk that is in a usb case. I need to run fdisk and put a file system on it. I only have one drive in the laptop that is designated /dev/sda. So when I plug in the usb disk I would expect it to be /dev/sdb. And tha...

Re: Too many editions?

All this complaining by linux noobs is entertaining. They don't know the history. Many years ago someone at RedHat had the same idea and came up with Bluecrap. Oh sorry it was blue curve. Well it was a total flop. Now there are a bunch of noobs that want to do it again. There are not to many edition...

Re: Peer-to-Peer connection through crossover cable

I don't believe a crossover cable is going to work ( because the transmit and received has been switched, crossed over.). I would use a hub or switch. You can get a 5 port switch from newegg for $24 but you get a ten dollar rebate so it's total cost is only $14. Plug it in and it should run fine. Es...

Re: nvidia with overscan

Thanks. I downloaded the version that was mentioned. now I just have to install it.

I have gotten to the point of Linus flipping off Nvidia. I don't think I will be buying another Nvidia cardever. But that leaves me with the overscan problem. Does the ATI card handle overscan?

TIA

Re: Mint 13 LXDE. When?

Garvan, Someone here (Seppalta perhaps) has tried to install LXDE over the MATE version and had a few minor issues. I have installed LXDE over the cinnamon version and it has been working fine. I even went as far as to uninstall cinnamon and it works without ill effects. It left some gnome things b...

Re: Mint 13 LXDE. When?

There won't be a Mint 13 LXDE. This was done to give more support to the Xfce version which is at least percieved to be more popular. Such an irony -- the LXDE subforum is far more active here than the Xfce area. I wonder what the poll results really represented? The poll results should be fairly a...

Re: How to make wifi signal stronger?

I know you said you wanted a free answer but you can't always get what you want but wit a little help from your friends you can get what you need. I have been using an Ubiquiti Bullet 2 hp for a long time now. No problems but I do have it indoors out of the rain. And by the way it has a one watt out...

Re: Cant configure IP address - Atheros chipset

I would take a very close look at the dhcpd.config file <http://linux.die.net/man/5/dhcpd.conf> This might be a not be the problem but at leaast ytou will have eliminated a possible problem. And make sure everything is correct. I have seen things not work that I thouht should because of a smal synta...

eliminating passwords

Hello All It seems that everytime I want to do something I need to input my password. Well this laptop isn't running a nuclear submarine, they use windows and get hacked as soon as they dock, it's just a terminal for my home theater. I have looked through the settings in preferences and system tools...

Re: file manager text size

Please share which file manager you are using. If you don't know, it's usually also shown in the Help > About menu. Thank you for your help. I am using Thunar 1.4.0 for the file manager. I read through the DOCS on XFCE about Thunar and found nothing about fonts at all. I am installing some other fi...

I would like to make the text under the icons and files in file manager bigger. I can make the icons bigger but that is not what I want. I am using mint for a home theater and I need to be able to read the file names from across the room. I also have a Panasonic Viera TV for the monitor. Everything ...

Very Strange USB issue

I have a T61 ThinkPad laptop. I installed Mint 13 Cinnamon edition on it. I use tthis laptop to control my hobby of working with micro controllers. But the Arduino software had the SerialPort selection grayed out. All the normal solutions for this proved fruitless in getting a connection. So I set i...

Re: Font size very small

Changing the resolution is not the thing to do. That changes everything that is on the screen. All that is needed is to increase the font size but for some reason that is not an option. I am having the same problem using a Viera TV. The solution is to have a way to increase the font size of the icon...
