Re: How long have you been using Linux ?
Nearly 15 years for me as well - I'd played with a couple of Linux live CDs, and then I realised I could dual-boot on my laptop. Within a few months I'd pretty much permanently switched - the system did everything I needed from a PC and gave me lots of new toys to play with.

Re: Upgraded to 21.3 now can't update software
Edited to add: Finally I'm somewhere - there's one particular package that won't update, and it was the first thing that appeared after I updated Mint, so it seemed to be connected. I tried updating one package at a time, and it worked. Yes, I checked and it does seem to be a me problem. I was able ...

Re: Upgraded to 21.3 now can't update software
Thank you for the answer - yes, I've shut down and restarted several times over the past couple of days, but it's still not bringing up the password dialog.

Upgraded to 21.3 now can't update software (solved)
I upgraded my system to Cinnamon 21.3 from 21.2 yesterday, and since then the Update Manager is showing possible updates, and updating Flatpaks, but won't load the dialog for me to authorise standard updates. I get a busy cursor for some seconds, and then nothing. I tried changing the mirrors, but i...

Re: Error message from Mint Update
Thank you, that has fixed the Apt corruption problem, so I can go back to normal. I'm getting these error messages in the terminal, but they don't seem to cause any specific issues in Mint Update. Re: Error message from Mint Update
Thank you both very much, that's close to the problem I'm having. I have a file security.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_jammy-security_InRelease but there seems to be something wrong with it, at least it won't open in the text editor. I tried replacing it with the file from a live USB version, and while it...

Error message from Mint Update (SOLVED)
We've been having problems with our internet for the past few days, which were finally fixed today, but I've also been getting an error message from the Update Manager, and that hasn't gone away. I'm not sure if the two things are connected or not, but I don't see anyone else reporting the same prob...

Re: Change distro controlling boot
Thank you very much to everyone who tried to help. Changing to Ubuntu didn't do anything - it saved, but didn't help. (Possibly because KDE Neon is Ubuntu based as well?, I'm not sure.) Doing the grub-install worked, with no issues so far. It's good to be back at home, and know future experiments ca...

Change distro controlling boot (SOLVED)
I used to distro-hop a lot 5 or 6 years ago, and I have multiple partitions set up on my boot drive to install them into. Back then, I was quite happy changing which distro controlled grub. I've recently installed another distro which took over the UEFI boot, and now I'd like to switch back to Mint ...

Re: Cinnamenu - can't adjust menu width
It updated for me, and I'm not having problems adjusting the size. So I'm afraid I don't know what is causing it for you, but it's not a universal problem.

Re: Can't access Timeshift
No, I'm afraid it doesn't. I tried installing Timeshift again through the Software Manager, and through Synaptic,(completely removing and rebooting both times) and neither gets me an application window. It's very strange.

Re: Can't access Timeshift
Thank you very much.
The command in the menu editor is timeshift-launcher.
If I run that in a terminal it asks me to authenticate with the graphical dialog, then I get this.

Can't access Timeshift
I'm currently running Mint 21, with the Cinnamon desktop, and over the past few weeks I've realised I can't access the controls for Timeshift. It continues to make snapshots, and if I click on the icon in the menu, it makes another snapshot, instead of opening any kind of dialog box or software wind...

Re: Annoying bluetooth glitch on Mint 21
Thank you for trying to help. I've checked and my Secure Boot is already off, and I don't run Windows, so it isn't that. As far as I can tell, it seems to be to do with the different Bluetooth applet that Mint 21 is using, as opposed to Mint 20 - in general it seems a lot more sophisticated, but I c...

Annoying bluetooth glitch on Mint 21
I use a pair of Beats Solo headphones with my laptop, and in Mint 20 I would turn them on once I had logged in, and they would automatically connect. In Mint 21, they connect, and then they almost immediately disconnect, meaning I have to open the bluetooth dialog and connect again. Is there anyone ...

Re: Flickering problem with 5.15 kernels
Thank you very much - the parameters seem to be solving the problem so far, no flickering... Good to hear. If that seems to be a good solution until a fix comes out in a newer kernel, you can use that same link to make the parameters permanent. Additional details for explaining the permanent part o...

Re: Flickering problem with 5.15 kernels
I'd be happy to try the possible fixes from the bug report - I can't help feeling I'd rather get it fixed now, rather than relying on an update that may be some time. But I would need some instructions on what to do - I've been using Linux for a long time, but I'm not particularly techie, and I've ...
