Re: Errors using LiveCD/USB to access offline Windows system files

I haven't used Windows in a decade, unless you count support to family :D , but I have seen multiple postings about the manner in which Windows is shut down causing access issues. Mainly, Win 10 uses Fast Start to keep access to the system partition mounted. I suspect this may relate to your issue. ...

Re: LMDE3 updated iso

I'm a happy user of LMDE3 and I'm very excited as I hear there is work ongoing to LMDE4. Anyway, LMDE3 is still my preferred choice for any case where I need a live distro or I want to create a fast and reliable OS into a virtual machine. Now, as time goes by, new bugs are fixed and both Mint & Deb...

@Murdock2525 thank you for your highly informative reply. Re: blinking colorful mouse pointer?

Another option that may be useful to you is enabling the "Show position of pointer when Control key is pressed" setting.
Open the main Menu > Preferences > Mouse and Touchpad. That setting should be the second in the list.

Re: Mounting second HDD

Take this for what it's worth. I divide the one hdd in my laptop into multiple data partitions that I have automount on boot, in addition to the 3 OS partitions. I mount the data partitions at /mnt/datax. I use labels instead of uuid, but either option works. A typical /etc/fstab entry is. LABEL=dat...

2. Annoyance one: The way the file manager Noto makes you toggle between two views all the time. I just put up with it though. I suspect I am incorrectly interpreting the annoyance. But, in Nemo go to Edit > Preferences to open the File Management Preferences window. Once open, in the left column s...

Another useful feature of .bash_history is how it is used to provide the autocomplete function. The simplest use is to press to ^ (up arrow) to scroll backwards through the commands you have used. You could search the history by entering <Ctrl-r>, begin the command and the auto complete with fill in...

Re: Microsoft software in Mint (SOLVED)

In Word my Wife can use the review tab for her work as an editor so that she can use the editing stuff, which I don't think think LibreOffice Writer can give her. In checking LiberOffice Help I found: Accepting or Rejecting Changes The review function is available in LibreOffice for text documents ...

Re: [SOLVED] Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE will not shut down properly

Glad to see you have fixed the issue. If you need the REISUO or REISUB options in the future, once you determine your "magic keys" press and hold them and then slowly press and release R-E-I-S-U-O in sequence (one at a time.) And thanks for the tips, I only knew REISUB, I didn't know REISUO.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3: Synaptic Package Manager

... You cannot "2) UPDATE the files listed under Installed (upgradable) " in Synaptic on Mint, because the Mint provided Synaptic has lost the ability to mark software packages for updating. Cf. here Suprise, surprise. Use Mint Update Manager to install software which is installed and upgradable. K...

There are several PDF editors in the software manager. A simple one, along the lines of pdftk is PDF Shuffler. It will accomplish your stated task of removing pages from a document or merging pages from two or more documents.

I also cannot seem to get the REISUO to work either probably because I don't know which keys are my "magic" keys. I have tried ctrl + print page typing REISUO and I have also tried that with the Fn key and neither work. (I will keep trying to figure it out). What happens with these key combinations...

I believe you are receiving the notification because that backport just showed up in the repositories in the last day or two, not because the driver is broken. I saw it for the first time when I refreshed my packages in Synaptic today. It wasn't present when I refreshed two days ago. The extended pa...

Re: Account Login Screen Mouse Issue

Simplest thing to check: Go to MintMenu > Preferences > Mouse and Touchpad. Once the window opens, Select the Touchpad button. In the General section make sure the Tap to Click setting is set to On . If the above didn't solve the issue, in the Release Notes for LM 19.3 Cinnamon there is an entry und...

Re: Unable to access files on dual boot

It's been a few years since I experienced something similar to this. When running several versions of LM based on Ubuntu and having shared data partitions I did not have a problem. When running LM (Ubuntu flavored) and the original LMDE (based on Debian testing) there were problems. I believe the is...
