Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3: Synaptic Package Manager

... You cannot "2) UPDATE the files listed under Installed (upgradable) " in Synaptic on Mint, because the Mint provided Synaptic has lost the ability to mark software packages for updating. Cf. here Suprise, surprise. Use Mint Update Manager to install software which is installed and upgradable. K...

Re: Adjusting to Linux/ Lack of confidence

There are several PDF editors in the software manager. A simple one, along the lines of pdftk is PDF Shuffler. It will accomplish your stated task of removing pages from a document or merging pages from two or more documents.

Re: Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE will not shut down properly

I also cannot seem to get the REISUO to work either probably because I don't know which keys are my "magic" keys. I have tried ctrl + print page typing REISUO and I have also tried that with the Fn key and neither work. (I will keep trying to figure it out). What happens with these key combinations...

Re: Unable to install wifi driver

I believe you are receiving the notification because that backport just showed up in the repositories in the last day or two, not because the driver is broken. I saw it for the first time when I refreshed my packages in Synaptic today. It wasn't present when I refreshed two days ago. The extended pa...

Re: Account Login Screen Mouse Issue

Simplest thing to check: Go to MintMenu > Preferences > Mouse and Touchpad. Once the window opens, Select the Touchpad button. In the General section make sure the Tap to Click setting is set to On . If the above didn't solve the issue, in the Release Notes for LM 19.3 Cinnamon there is an entry und...

Re: Unable to access files on dual boot

It's been a few years since I experienced something similar to this. When running several versions of LM based on Ubuntu and having shared data partitions I did not have a problem. When running LM (Ubuntu flavored) and the original LMDE (based on Debian testing) there were problems. I believe the is...

Re: Can files on external hard drive that were once connected to Win10 pc be used in Mint? [SOLVED]

Probably the only situation in which you would realize an advantage in using some of the Linux file systems is if there were a power/connection interruption during the writing or deleting of files. A journaling file system makes recovery faster. ext4 and ext3 are both journaling file systems, there ...

Is there an entry in etc/fstab file for this drive? SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB??
If so, that would keep it in the file manager.
No, there is no entry for this USB stick in etc/fstab.
Instead of etc/fstab check in etc/mtab

There have been changes in Windows since fred created those instructions. I haven't had Windows partitions on my computers for al...

Since the OP is wanting flash in Chromium, there exists another alternative to gnash and adobe flash. The option would be Pepperflash. Re: MINT 18.2 Cinnamon : something wrong with my laptop touchpad

Some of the Dell laptops use Synaptics touchpads and have given some people problems for a while when running linux. I am using a Dell Inspiron 15-5555. Under LM 18.1 the toucpad worked except that there were no "button" zones at the bottom left and right of the touchpad. When I upgraded to LM 18.2,...

Re: Multiple distros on a USB?

In the past I used a shell script titled MultiCD, which can also write the ISOs to a flash drive. However, there is no persistence. The ISO images that MultiCD writes can also be written to a flash drive, although the filesystem will be read-only; see the ISOLINUX documentation for more info. You ca...

Re: Adobe Flash plug-in

If you use the pepperflashplugin-nonfree you no longer need to use the other PPA or the symlinks as found in some tutorials. Chrome does have flash support embedded, in the form of pepper flash. Chromium is the free/open source base on which Chrome is built. Google does not have flash embedded into ...

Re: LM 17 Cinnamon crash to fallback every time

The Nvidia drivers were loaded from the Nvidia website. The problem with those is you have to install the driver for each kernel, it doesn't carry forward. @WharfRat It's been three years since I had a laptop with either nVidia or ATI graphics, my current has Intel, but I seem to recall if you have...
