Surely not? it's like I'm looking at a ZX Spectrum screen. It also says "version 1.97 beta". How can that be Grub2?
(it might be v1.94 beta, but definitely not version 2)

Only a 'beta Grub'
just installed Linux Mint 8 and loving the look and feel of it compared to Gloria. (The only gripe I would have with the fresh install as opposed to upgrading is that it would have been nice to have an option to have Helena overwrite Gloria. At the moment, I only had the choice to either overwrite t...

Re: help with .m4a playback problem
Here it is - I've ripped a few of my cd's in Ubunutu (and a few in Mint) in aac format (with the default extension .m4a). There are not, as far as I can see, any way to alter the bit rate or sampling rate so it is left as default. On the whole, I used Rhythmbox to rip these. A feature that might be...

Re: help with .m4a playback problem
Thanks a lot for the response. thank you for linking me to the file which allows me to alter the bit rate - it may be that that is what the problem is - the bit rate might be too high for the other devices to play? The other link you provided (for the 'corrupt' problem) - my problem is the .m4a play...

help with .m4a playback problem
Hi all. There seems to be silence on this topic in one of my previous post but I can't believe that I am the only one with this problem. Surely not? Here it is - I've ripped a few of my cd's in Ubunutu (and a few in Mint) in aac format (with the default extension .m4a). There are not, as far as I ca...

Re: Permissions/Ownership all screwed up after new install
Thanks Fred - i had already read one of your previous posts and it sort of got me onto the right track. But, one thing I can't seem to grasp is the whole 'mount in /home or /media' etc. I've been used to (in ubuntu) just going into my 'Computer' and double clicking my data partition and then saving ...

Re: N95 syncing with LInux Mint

However, Can someone help me with making my N95 8Gb show up in rhythmbox? i've enabled the correct plug-in (the MTP one), but which option on teh nokia do i choose when i plug the USB cable in? I have tried them all, but no avail (altho...

Re: Permissions/Ownership all screwed up after new install
hi and thanks. here is the contents of the /fstab file (silly me!!) (ps - it seems I cant even delete the last line of this as i don't have the permission to do this either! It's clearly one of the attempts by me where I'd forgotten to rename the username after cutting/pasting - again even sillier o...

Re: linux ripped .m4a only plays in linux
Further Update. I've just tried a ripping a track in Rythymbox using Mint and then transferred it to my Nokia and unfortunately, I have the same problem. This is really frustrating now as I need to be able to transfer music to my Nokia and Creative. Currently my options are: (1) to use .mp3 format (...

Re: Making a Data Partition
I've managed to get make the partition available by running it as root, changing the owner to my user and then giving every permission I could, to anyone I could. I'm rather doubtful that this is the best possible solution, but it works for now, and it isn't a partition that contains secure data, s...

Re: linux ripped .m4a only plays in linux
As an update, I can confirm that I've just found an .m4a file that I had downloaded from iTunes and that plays in my nokia after transfering it from Linux mint (drag and drop as i haven;'t figured out how to make my Nokia shop up in Rythymbox even though i have enabled the mtp plugin in Rythymbx). A...

Re: Main Menu suggestion..
Thank you Dr Hu. Very helpful. it is not exactly what I was looking for, but it definitely does what I want it to. I was hoping for the the standar 'block' in the panel for each item that's open - but it doesn't matter, as I said, as it dos the job. By the way, any chance you can shed some light on ...

On a sort of related topic...how come none of my open applications appear on the bottom panel? I can tab through the open applications with 'alt -tab', but I can't see which ones are open in the bottom panel...
I'm sure it's a simple point, but I could not see anything in the preferences.
Cheers

linux ripped .m4a only plays in linux
I have slowly discovered a strange occurance. My .m4a music files do not play in any other device that supports .m4a. I have a dual boot and generally for music, I had been using WMP to rip my cds - i think Sound Juicer in ubuntu gave me permission problems initially. Anyway, i was able to use Rhyth...

Re: Fresh Install Advice
Just out of interest, thought I'd share this with you... On my Vista part'n, I got rid of all the unecessary applications, and installed all the required updates from Windows. Apart from that, its' still a virgin set up - not even flash in firefox yet....guess how much HD space has been taken up? A ...

Main Menu suggestion..
Hi guys. I have just moved over form ubunutu to Mint. All going really well, but one thing is bugging me... When i click on the 'Start menu' to pick something to open (Firefox or thunderbird for example), the menu remains open. It's not a major problem, just an irritation. Is there a setting to stop...

Re: Fresh Install Advice
Thanks a lot guys, your help was really useful. I found the Vista partioner...no where near as friendly as gParted. It only let me shrink it to about 78GB, then i used gParted to do the rest (to about 50GB). Still probably more than I need, but I know Vista has a tendancy to hold on to loads of file...
