Try GtkHash, I think it will do what you need. It is in the Mint/Ubuntu repo's

Re: How much do you mod your desktop?
I use the Mate desktop, I use the dconf editor to set the panel to Gnome 2 (Don’t try this unless you know exactly what you are doing!). I use the black mate theme. The Mint-X-Dark icon theme. Fonts are whatever Mint uses. Conky gets changed all the time, whenever the whim hits me. The wallpaper I t...

Re: Why did my cpu heat up back then like this ?
This is the bittersweet side to Linux based distro’s. Different distro’s act in different ways on the same hardware. I have a laptop that is (at the moment ) is setup as duel boot, Linux Mint will throw up a large number of red fail errors while Manjaro boots normally without errors. A new AMD machi...

Re: How to boot Linux on newer Lenovo "secured-core" PCs
There are several companies producing Secured-core PCs. Including: Asus, Acer, HP, Dell, Samsung Galaxy Book2, Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 for Business As can be seen at this site: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/business/devices?col=secured-core-pcs At this time I do not know how or if yo...

Re: Dolphin not using Control Center theme
Is there a way to set up a dark mode in Dolphin? I seriously doubt it, Cinnamon uses Nemo as its file manager. Dolphin is from the KDE desktop as in Kubuntu or KDE neon and is way different. Also at the time I used the KDE desktop Dolphin suffered from a data loss problem that I myself have run int...

Re: latest version of mint does not come with the latest version of libreoffice
It is true that a PPA can brake a system, therefore never use a PPA from an untrusted source. Malware is another possibility from PPA use, so caution is always a watch word here. I have used the libreoffice-still PPA for quite sometime without problems. But for the timid there is the flatpak apps as...

Re: Screen Locking
Well good luck with that, the last time I tried to install KDE (Plasma) and Mate on the same system it slowed to a crawl And was almost unusable. I personally don’t see the reason to install multiple desktop environments on a production setup. One notable exception is Kodi and one might say it’s not...

Re: latest version of mint does not come with the latest version of libreoffice
If you don't mind using a PPA, there are PPA's for the latest version of libreoffice. This site gives ways to get the latest version of libreoffice. It is for Ubuntu but it will work in Linux Mint. https://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2021/08/install-libreoffice-7-2-ubuntu-20-04-21-10/ go to Method ...

You can try resetting “Default zoom level:” in Caja (File Browser) under Edit >preferences, go to the Views tab. The zoom level will affect the desktop icons and can be set up to 400%.

Re: Hardware to avoid
Avoid any SSD marked as HP (such as HP SSD S600 ) they can lock up or turn a file system to read only under Linux Ext3 and Ext4. I had to use some crazy format options to make one work for me.
If you are going wireless avoid the broadcom wireless cards.
Toshiba also uses the Insyde BIOS.

Re: would mint run smoothly
Actually the GM45 gpu came out in 2006 so it's older than you thought. However, Intel support for their old hardware is the best, it has nothing to do with whether you're running Mint or any other distro. That card may only have opengl 2.1 but it's going to work in Linux with 3D hardware accelerate...

Re: would mint run smoothly
I have found that Linux Mint Mate will run smoothly on just about any duel core or better machine with at least 4 Gig of ram and a SSD drive. I use a Dell Latitude E6400 these machines first came out about 2009, you may notice that this systems bios is 2013 so it’s still quite old. So if Mint can ma...

First Why did you resurrect a topic that is almost 2 years old? I don’t know how the admins and moderators will feel about that. OK now...I have used Linux Mint since about version 8 or 9 and still every install I have done “worked out of the box” Linux Mint even found my Broadcom B43 series wireles...

Re: Failed NFS Share
I believe your problem might be in this line in your /etc/export file /mnt/nfs_share 192.168.0.7(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) I would try /mnt/DVR/Transfer 192.168.0.7(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) or /mnt/Transfer 192.168.0.7(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) instead. Beyond that I would check the permissions of ...

Re: http://mirror.xeonbd.com/linuxmint.com-repo/ Bangladesh repository server has been removed??
it's actually a myth that the closest mirrror is fastest. That depends on the server speed. The mirror here was twice as fast as the default, And it was a real scorcher that was run by a university here. It was only about 100 miles from my home. And the main mirror is going to have all the software...

Re: http://mirror.xeonbd.com/linuxmint.com-repo/ Bangladesh repository server has been removed??
Yes I have the same issue with a local mirror/Repository here. I had to reset the software mirror/Repository back to Linux Mint’s default. I think these Mint software mirrors/Repository may be gone for good. My advice is to reset the software mirror back to Linux Mint’s default.

I had this happen too. I just clicked refresh in the Update Manager then reapplied the updates. All was well after that.
