Re: Security - Password

Re: Security - Password

Yes, I was EXTREMELY frustrated. I am trying to tweak the system to work properly. Every-time I had to change or install something a little differently, I have to type in a password. Software packages _ password Synaptic package manager - password Terminal - Password All of a sudden I had to use a p...

Security - Password

OK, I know, I have heard enough about "Security". I am the only user on the computer, no one else. My Fiance plays a few games that I have on the desktop, thats it. Right now I am just so sick and tired of typing in a password every time I do something, I am starting to write it on the toilet when I...

Re: Grub - Bootloader?

/boot/grub/menu.lst instead. Found it there. I am using Mint 8. But how can I edit it? I am in the terminal with SU privileges and get Warning: unknown mime-type for "menu." -- using "application/octet-stream" Warning: unknown mime-type for "lst" -- using "application/octet-stream" Error: no "edit"...

Re: Spent some time playing with PCLinuxOS and Puppy

I have been distro hoping and everytime I wind up with mint as I am sick and tired of dicking around with "Proprietary drivers". I have read some bad reviews on Mint and I believe they mostly come from other Distros trying to rank there garbage. I am not saying other distros aren't fun to play aroun...

Re: Network Blinky Lights?????

I have the best ISP in Oklahoma which pretty much says, well, Lets just say I'm glad they don't operate commercial airliners. But on the bright side, if they were pilo...

Re: Synaptic and Updates, bogging down

could some of this be due to using the terminal to install some programs? I noticed after installed openshot I have sat her for 3 minutes and 39 seconds watching the little ball spin. all I need to do is click mark, unmark, or apply and the waiting games begins. There is barely anything on the hard ...

Re: Synaptic and Updates, bogging down

Sorry for the questions in my first post. It was late, I was tired, and I just did not see your system specs in your signature section. HAHAHAHA! Yep, you were tired. You had asked for the specs and had been about the third person. So I figured I would just put them in my sig so there ALL the time....
