Re: [Solved] Install Virtualbox 6.0 in Mint 19.1

But that link concerns Wine and not virtualbox. Are you sure? Thanks for catching that, seen too many Wine threads recently, have those on speed-dial basically... but still, am I google? :P https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads: wget -q https://www.virtualbox.org/download/oracle_vbox_2016...

Well, you still need to follow the rest of the official instructions..., namely this part:

Code: Select all

wget -nc https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key
sudo apt-key add winehq.key
But that link concerns Wine and not virtualbox. Are you sure?

Re: Install Virtualbox 6.0 in Mint 19.1

I have the XFCE version of 19.1. Can you help please? Sure, those instructions you followed won't work on Mint. I don't get why people don't simply follow official installation instructions instead of just trusting random commands they found on some forum and don't really understand to configure th...

Re: Install Virtualbox 6.0 in Mint 19.1

i just installed yesterday via terminal. Installing VirtualBox 6.0 in Debian, Ubuntu and Linux Mint First, uninstall any earlier version of Virtualbox if any. sudo apt-get remove virtualbox-* Next, install latest VirtualBox 6.0 version using official Virtualbox repository. To add the repository, us...

Re: Print to PDF problem

You misunderstand. What I'm saying is that the problem arises because the destination specified in the config file is a symlink, not that there's something wrong with that particular symlink or symlinks in general. I've no basis of comparison on this particular issue, as I've always used a regular ...

Re: Print to PDF problem

If it's any consolation, I'm able to reproduce the problem. Seems to be a symlink issue, as the pdf virtual printer works fine if you have a regular PDF folder in home. Sorry, no idea how to fix but thought maybe that will help you (or someone else) to diagnose. Also, of course, you can use a regul...

Print to PDF problem

Hello, I'm running XFCE 19.1. When I request print to PDF the output goes somewhere but not to the PDF directory in my home directory. The entry in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf appears correct, ie. Out ${HOME}/PDF (see attachment) but since 09-09-2018 this option has not been sending the output here. I c...

Re: Dual boot install of Mint xfce 18.3 with Win 8.1

You're missing the point. That you can hear the drive is a red flag, regardless of age. Also, rather odd for an 8.1 laptop to be new, as 10 has been standard for almost three years. Anyhoo, sorry to have wasted your time. Won't happen again. You could be right about the disk. I attach the SMART tes...

Re: Dual boot install of Mint xfce 18.3 with Win 8.1

... when Mint boots there's a lot of audible hard disk activity ... Frankly, I'd be more worried about that. Suggests a drive about to fail. Have you checked the SMART data? Key stuff available in Disks , more with smartmontools . Also, does the machine eventually settle down and stop spinning the ...

Did you give enough room for Mint?

Code: Select all

I'm not logged on on that machine but yes, about 120 Gbytes.

Dual boot install of Mint xfce 18.3 with Win 8.1

I've installed Mint alongside Windows on a friend's laptop. Everything works perfectly but I notice that when Mint boots there's a lot of audible hard disk activity that is not present when Windows 8.1 boots. Does anyone have an idea why that might be so, and suggest a fix? The laptop is a Lenovo wi...

Hello oliverjames

I assume you want to print in A4 format (France). Maybe the presets have changed to the American Letter/Legal.
Of course, and no.

Re: Print PDF problem - master-pdf. Foxit, qpdfview

I've tried all your suggestions but still the same problem; printed image cropped on both sides. In the Print dialog there is an option to Center the page. Is it checked? It is, And the page looks to be centred, however it is not shrunk to fit the page and hence the left and right sides are cropped.

Hi oliverjames,

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

Check your printer's settings, and make sure it's default print quality settings is on "normal" versus "draft".

Hope this helps ...

Re: Print PDF problem - master-pdf. Foxit, qpdfview

I run into this problem when a PDF is set up to print as Grayscale. There is a checkbox in the Print dialog for MasterPDF Editor. You can also try to print the document as an image - for MasterPDF Editor the option is hidden behind the Advanced button in the Print dialog. I've tried all your sugges...

Print PDF problem - master-pdf. Foxit, qpdfview

Yesterday I tried printing from a PDF file. My OS is Mint XFCE 18.2. I printed the page via XReader and found that I couldn't center the page. I then tried Master-PDF but the printed was so faint as to be illegible, same result with Foxit reader and qpdfview. The printer is a Brother HL2270DW. The O...

Instructions for Linux Mint 18.3 and 18.2 : From Update Manager's View menu open Linux kernels, select 4.13 in the left sidebar and at the right you should see version 4.13.0-36 or newer (a higher number than 36 at the end). Re: [solved] Libre office 5.4 updates, how to get

Cosmo, thank you for your reply. I do appreciate your expertise and will correct the ownership issue regarding my home directory, particularly that of the .gvfs entry, dbus, geany, and leafpad. I've deleted the .rpmdb files as the last entry was dated 2016. This appears to relate to rpm packages and...
