This one always cracks me up. So many people just don't believe it, and after a year or so it just kind of dawns on them that they haven't had to do any virus scans, quarantines, etc.

Re: Software development and the myth of progress

In the article, the writer states that UNIX has gone from high end computers (scientists, etc) to low end (desktops, etc), and that Windows is the opposite. Does the writer of said article not know that the majority of supercomputers and "high end" computing runs off Linux (UNIX based) or UNIX itsel...

Re: Guild Wars still lives!

Yeah, that's about when I started playing as well. I haven't played continually, but I tend to keep coming back to it. It has definitely improved since then, but I also wouldn't go so far as to say it's a whole lot different. If you liked it before you'd probably still like it now, maybe a little mo...

We must also keep in mind that hardware is an issue here as well some times. What might take seven installs to be successful for one person, may work fine the first time for someone else.

Re: where does my software download go?

Most (but not all) software is usually located in /usr, or more specifically in /usr/bin. Cannot guarantee your setup, as I don't know all, and am not a guru, but this is where I've found all of my applications to generally be.

Guild Wars still lives!

Hello all. Just to be up front, this is not a technical question. Just wondering if anyone here plays Guild Wars? I know it's getting a little older, and most players are just anticipating the sequel at this point, but there has to be someone who still plays. Right..? Anyone? ..... ..... ..... Any t...

I actually just learned a simple fix for this earlier today. Go to Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager > Window Management. Uncheck "Grid".
