Re: Mouse Problem

Thanks for that O.

I'll try the apt-get route as it seems easier. I haven't a clue about using x-input.

Mouse Problem

Hello, I decided to have another look at Mint as an alternative to Windows 10. I managed to get a distro working from a 16GB flash drive. However there are problems: When I eventually found the Mouse setup, I found that even at the lowest accelleration, the mouse pointer moves far too quickly. I'm n...

Re: Linux Mint on Flash Drive

As a newcomer to Linux I was distinctly unimpressed with the instructions for adding persistence to a LM distro on a 16GB key drive. The instructions state: "Now extract the file "casper.rw" from the zip file to your USB drive." -- There are six directories on the USB drive. To which directory? The...

Re: Icons in 10 KDE [SOLVED - sort of]

Managed to get it back, thanks. Pity about the awful icons ... I am not sure what icons your referring to... so I''ll pass.. The icons on the desktop with the horrible black blob with spanners and Xs etc., for which I cannot see any use for as all of that can all be achieved with a 'Properties' rig...

Re: Panel at the Bottom 10 KDE

I'll look into it next time I boot into Linux and report back if it isn't solved. The GUI keeps crashing and bringing down that panel - something wrong with the video settings probably ... This is little brutal but I've found that it works, it resets Plasma and gets you back to a default desktop. Y...

Re: Panel at the Bottom 10 KDE

The panel uses widgets. You should have Application launcher, Quick access, Show desktop, Task manager, System tray, and Digital clock. It sounds like the task manager may be gone. Right-click just to the left of the system tray and see if one of the listings has task manager. If not start by right...

Re: Icons in 10 KDE [SOLVED - sort of]

You don't get rid of it. It is part of the icon. :( If you want Konqueror back on the desktop open the application launcher (menu)-applications, Internet. Locate the Konqueror launcher icon then right-click and choose add to desktop. Konqueror is a web browser but can be used as a file manager. Jus...

Panel at the Bottom 10 KDE

The system managed to put the system tray in the middle of the panel after Synaptic ceased responding and the system had to be restarted. The clock has disappeared as well. The panel tool box doesn't help. I can drag the system tray back to where it should be, on the right, but it will not stay ther...

Icons in 10 KDE

1) How can I get rid of the black blob next to a desktop icon which appears to do little except delete the icon if you hit X? !!! :x 2) I did just that to an icon marked with my user name. The icon was useful, now it's gone. How can I get it back? I believe it was Konqueror configured as a file mana...

Later.

I would add that the Mint machine is also cabled.

I can access the Mint shares from the laptop but not vice-versa.

Mint Not Seeing Wireless Connected Laptop [SOLVED]

I've just added my wife's laptop (XP Professional) to the workgroup 'ONE'. The few directories that are shared on that laptop can be seen by the other two Windows machines (XP Home SP-2 and Windows -7 Professional) but Mint cannot see the laptop although it can see the other two. The XP Home and Win...

Re: Moving Machine to Another Workgroup [SOLVED]

I had to take ownership before the system would let me make changes to the file. You took ownership of smb.conf away from root? It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out. In the future you might want to use: gksu gedit /path-to-file Anyway, please post the output of the following comma...

Re: Moving Machine to Another Workgroup

Oops! Bad move if you took away ownership from root... I'm not very experienced with Samba (I am using nfs). So my advice is to follow one of the many tutorials online. For example: http://www.jonathanmoeller.com/screed/?p=1590 or http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/296391:easy-samba-setup Good lu...

Re: Moving Machine to Another Workgroup

Just edit /etc/samba/smb.conf and replace WORKGROUP with ONE. Then restart. Thanks. That worked: I had to take ownership before the system would let me make changes to the file. OK, now the Windows machines can see the Linux machine \\CC \but cannot access any directories on it, not even the ones I...
