Re: Install Mint with a newer kernel by default

Hi WharfRat! Thanks for your answer. Could you be a bit more specific about which packages to install, in terms of dependencies and other stuff? I mean, being the kernel my guess is there must be a number of packages to install, not just the kernel itself. Am I right? And a related question. Could I...

Install Mint with a newer kernel by default

Hello guys! I'm finding myself in a bit of a conundrum regarding the installation of Mint 18.1 on my new Intel NUC Skull Canyon (NUC6i7KYK), which features an Intel Core i7-6770HQ and Iris Pro Graphics. I could use some advice. The problem I have is that the current version of Mint, being based on U...

Re: Broken, packages and depenencies.

Finally! It turns out that I only had to reinstall the linuxmint-keyring package.
What I still don't understand is why this has happened and how can I prevent it from happening again. Thanks!

Re: Broken, packages and depenencies.

Hi! It's me again. I've read somewhere that debian multimedia is now deb-multimedia, so there's another package that can be installed to partially solve my problem, called 'deb-multimedia-keyring': sudo apt-get install deb-multimedia-keyring sudo apt-get update With that I remove one of my error mes...

Hi, Baddream! I'm facing a very similar problem. Re: LMDE: How do I reset to default font scheme?

Hey, guys! A related question was posted and discussed in this forums and it helped me solve this issue. Credit to Nathan from Programhalla for finding the solution and Mint forum member 'squeezy' for posting it. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=201&t=94378&p=544407&hilit=fonts#p544407 Yo...

Re: Software manager a threat to security?

It looks like Clem and the Mint team were aware of this and have already given a response:

Software manager a threat to security?

Hi, guys! I know close to zero about this particular problem, as I have not tested LM Debian yet, but I think it might be of interest to the Mint team. Today, I read a good review about LMDE. http://desktoplinuxreviews.com/2010/09/07/linux-mint-9-debian One of the comments, by Brian Masinick, howeve...

Re: LXDE on Linux Mint Main Edition

Hi! With the release of Mint LXDE 9 RC, has any of this changed? I actually want to install the new Pcmanfm2 onto the Mint Gnome Edition, not the whole LXDE desktop, but can't seem to find it in the repos. Could anybody help me? Also, Pcmanfm2 has recently been updated to version 0.9.7, I think, and...

Re: Ideas for Isadora KDE

Maybe not for Isadora but for Mint 10 KDE... Have you thought about porting Mint Menu to Qt-KDE? You know, like a plasmoid or something like that. I find it much better than Kickoff and Lancelot and it would make Mint KDE a special KDE distro, different from Kubuntu and others. Plus, Mint branding w...

That's exactly what I meant! Mint menu is a Mint specific tool that could be useful to all Mint users, regardless of which desktop environment they are running.

Port MintMenu to Qt-KDE

Hi! I've been a Mint Gnome user for a while now, and I'm thinking about switching to Mint KDE for the next release. I like KDE4 and Mint KDE, but there's one thing that makes me be a bit hesitant about the switch: I consider MintMenu a much cleaner, simpler and more useful and more customizable menu...

Re: Make KDE 4 default DE for Mint Main Edition

What about working on both Gnome and KDE editions in parallel, so there's no "Community" as opposed to "Main", edition of any of them? More importantly, what about releasing both at the same time? It would be quite similar to what Mandriva does. I actually think it's a problem for many potential use...

Re: Make KDE 4 default DE for Mint Main Edition

Wow! Great -and long- response. This is exactly what I wanted, to ignite an intense debate. Well, while I think that some of your points are valid arguments (the Zeitgeist correction, the looks of Gnome 3 vs. those of gnome 2.xx, my "Gnome users jumping to KDE" prediction), I have a few comments to ...

Re: Make KDE 4 default DE for Mint Main Edition

Thank you for your quick reply. I can't say I disagree with anything in your response. I'm just going to clarify a couple of things. I think Gnome's development model is going to be different than the process that took the KDE project into the 4.X series, too. KDE 4.0 was unstable and many features ...

Make KDE 4 default DE for Mint Main Edition

Let's clear it out of the way right now: a) I'm not a KDE fanboy, and this is not a Gnome vs. KDE post. In fact, up to this very moment my regular desktop is Gnome, not KDE, and I really didn't like KDE 3, it was way too ugly and cluttered for me. Things are starting to change with KDE4, though. b) ...
