Re: Unable to mount iphone - Unhandled Lockdown error (-4)

Yea I'm definitely having a problem as well ( sorry cik if I got you excited thinking there was a solution yet :? ) There has to be some sort of an easier approach to this whole thing or a program of sorts. This is one problem keeps some people I know from wanting Mint on their machines ( from Windo...

Re: Skype and LMDE...

Interesting, would I look it up in synaptic or use the terminal to do this? ( just want to be extra sure ) :) Be very very careful. One started do not do any system updates or you will trash your system. You do this at your own risk. The easiest approach is to add these two lines to the end of /etc/...

Re: Skype and LMDE...

@MrMint I recently fixed all my Skype problems in LMDE by installing the very latest pulseaudio from experimental. Then just select the correct mic in the mixer and it all worked. Coincidently I also install a Liquorix kernel just before I tried the latest Pulse, but a Liquorix kernel alone did not...

Re: Iphone 3gs

So you're saying that the security updates ( rarely as they come ) don't apply if you are syncing with a Linux machine only an Apple/Windows one?

The machine didn't break because there was nothing to update just to sync but just wondered...

Re: Iphone 3gs

Thanks for the reply Miami but as for managing, yea, that wasn't a problem. I also had them using Rhythmbox for managing myself.

That's the easy part :?

I hope someone helps us because I would hate to put Windows on their machines side by side with linux mint

Re: Iphone 3gs

I'm new to mint and have been playing around a bit with Banshee. I've managed to make it recognize my iphone 3G. It looks as if I can start using it to sync my music and photos as well. My question is about the occasional iphone software update from apple. Can that be done over Banshee as well or s...

Re: Question About LTS Vs. Normal Cycle Releases

If you want "normal" user, that is I suppose you mean - technically ignorant - then perhaps the Google OS is for you. You turn it on, and it boots into the Google cloud and away you go to CloudGoogleLand. As for "normal" versus "tech" user in Linux, you could take a hint from the commercial side - ...

Question About LTS Vs. Normal Cycle Releases

I bring this up because I've noticed With both Ubuntu and Mint there are LTS ( long term support ) releases. I also see that these are more directed towards servers that can't reinstall or update the OS every 6 months but: I would think this would be better for the average user that doesn't want to ...

Re: Type of Static Sound Coming From Speakers with Mint 8

Key in alsamixer + "Enter" It worked... I went into it, saw the levels, and played with them and the crackle went away. Weird how this happened, isn't it? I find the wireless problem & this prob off only because I'm using Mint since Ver. 7 and with that version, there was not one problem. Hmm Well,...

Re: Type of Static Sound Coming From Speakers with Mint 8

I don't use Helena (yet - I never get the time needed to make the change and my Gloria works too well ) You are right - there's a change Open a terminal and execute alsamixer and you get just that I think that maybe some input channel is open and catches some noise of sorts Close input and see what...

Re: Type of Static Sound Coming From Speakers with Mint 8

More facts are needed - please read these simple rules Soundcard - Soundblaster Audigy2 OS - Mint 8 (gnome) No error messages ( Just the static sound ) Before in ( Skype for example ) I was able to select the ALSA option, in Mint 8 I don't see it. Don't know if this could be the potential prob?

Type of Static Sound Coming From Speakers with Mint 8

This started not too long ago, I thought maybe this was some kind of glitch that would go away but it hasn't. I thought maybe this could be my sound card going bad, the jack or the speakers but when I put in another Distro or 2, the static went away ( a pop snuck in but nothing like it's become in M...

Re: Wireless Fix for Mint 8?

Earlier in this thread I had a bit of a beef about LM8 and my wireless connectivity issues and promised that if I found a resolution I'd post it. I did and I have so check here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=37279 for the full story. Someone actually gave me a link that fixed my p...

Re: The Wireless Issues That Began With Mint 8 (& Other Distros)

There is a fix here that does not require having an Internet connection: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1288865 And by the way this is not a general wireless problem - it only seems to affect certain Broadcom chipsets. You know what man, you finally directed me to a real solution that act...

The Wireless Issues That Began With Mint 8 (& Other Distros)

I realize this is a networking topic but since it's not in the form of a "technical" thing of configuration, just questioning, I figured to post it here for discussion and to make a topic about those ( like me ) wondering just why and what happened in Mint 8? Before I ask, let me mention that this i...
