I have the flatpak version installed on several different computers and it works just fine on my machines. I sync to Nextcloud between Windows and 3 different version of Linux, no problems.

Welcome to the forum.
You might take a look at recoll https://www.recoll.org/index.html if search (everything) does not work for you. I am using it on my laptop and it does a great job indexing my Nextcloud folder. It allows me to easily find almost any document with just a few keywords.

Re: When did you start to realize Linux will never become the future of desktop computing?
Probably 2000. But what Spamegg said as well. Linux is still too much of a "tinkerers OS" and not ready for those who just want to turn it on and have it work. Murph, Not sure I agree. I use Linux everyday for both work and play and it just works for me. I learned some time ago to "t...

If you are playing with wxWidgets you should look at wxFormBuilder https://github.com/wxFormBuilder/wxFormBuilderMichael Thomas Greer wrote: ⤴Mon Feb 19, 2024 5:09 pm I’ve been playing with wxWidgets (a C++ GUI library). I like it a lot.
+1 on Lazarus/FPC too.

Re: Developer's Opinion: Alternative to Visual Basic or Visual FoxPro Programming Languages
Took a look at Gambas today, it looks pretty good and it produces appimages! I have not done any VB programming in a while, did some QuickBasic back in the DOS day because it was free and came with DOS. Might try it for a quick utility, not sure I want to start anything big with it just yet. Yes, i...

Re: Developer's Opinion: Alternative to Visual Basic or Visual FoxPro Programming Languages
What I like in Gambas: Well, it's too good.. the language is very well known, easy to adapt and the IDE is so neat.. very well-build Graphical Interface Designer, lot of widgets / controls. Beautifully designed Rich Code editor packed with required features. Data connectivity is good. Community is ...

Another vote for Joplin. I sync my Joplin notes using my Nextcloud. Markdown rocks! I had not thought of using and IDE, most of them support Markdown.

Re: Goodbye Windows, Hello Linux Mint
Hello Linux Mint Forum! My name is Joe. I'm retired and residing in North Arkansas. Within the upcoming weeks, I plan to install Linux Mint on my desktop device. The computer does not meet Windows 11 criteria and new equipment is not in my future plans. This presents an ideal opportunity to transit...

Re: Move to the new house
Well, we made it. I am now in the new office, with the new "Imperial Battle Station" which is the Windows desktop, and the Thelio with four monitors all set up. Thank goodness the people who owned this place had made sure that there were extra power outlets. WiFi is really fast, and I nee...

Re: Which one to use for Desktop Applications: Python with GTK or C++ with QT?
No, I'm not talking about giving up Pascal, I said it's just different. I am trying to learn and make it compatible with my preferences using custom functions... For example, adding columns to ListView like this: ListView1.ViewStyle:=vsReport; ResetListView(ListView1); // Or maybe: lvReset(ListView...

Re: Which one to use for Desktop Applications: Python with GTK or C++ with QT?
Don't give up on Object Pascal too quickly, it is a great language. Anders Hejlsberg is a genius https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Hejlsberg and like Linus he has proven that Delphi was not just a one off since he went on to develop C# and TypeScript. I saw a lot of Delphi (Object Pascal) in C# w...

Yeah, I read a lot about Glade and Python but never used it. Will give it a try too but now I'm trying to learn / play with Lazarus controls as I want to good alternative to VFP to port my running programs. This topic is very close to the question in another thread. You might take a look at wxFormB...

Re: Questions about IDE's for Linux.
Hi Folks, If I wanted to develop in C/C++, is there a "WindowBuilder" type of plugin (screen designer with widgets) for Eclipse? Also, is there an easy way to install GTK+/GTK? Like, is there an 'installer' program somewhere? It's not really a plugin for Eclipse but you might take a look ...

Re: Non-Mint: MX Linux or Pop!_OS?
New-to-me spare desktop, (Lenovo M83, i7-4770, circa 2013) needs a Linux OS. I already have Mint on a daily desktop and laptop, working well for my casual needs, so I am looking for something a bit different for the new box. MX Linux or Pop!_OS? Note: I like smooth updates. And some day, in my rema...

That is what I have been doing but I was hoping to open up the options to the whole drive. I have notepad++ installed on a couple of machines using Crossover, which uses bottles. I can open, edit and save files to any location that I have permissions. I highly recommend Crossover if you need to run...

Re: help with visual studio
TK is not installed on Mint by default.
If you are using a virtual environment it needs to include site packages.
Hope this helps.
Bob
Code: Select all
sudo apt install python3-tk
Hope this helps.
