Re: How to make the touchpad turn off automatically when typ

Just used this 3 year old tip to successfully solve a customer's problem on a laptop running openSUSE 12.1 & KDE4.8.4.

Thank you Husse. You are missed, but your legacy lives on

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE

@ tdockery97 I read your response and I respect your right to your opinion, but I ask you to consider this. This is a Linux Mint Forum, and this thread is entitled "Linux Mint 10 KDE". Therefore this is a place I go to get information on the progress of the upcoming release of LMKDE10, and...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE

Perhaps I missed something here. I was under the impression that the title of this thread was "Linux Mint 10 KDE"... for that matter I thought this was a Linux Mint forum, not a Kubuntu support forum.

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE

You can also try a real distribution that integrates well KDE 4.6, systemd and a lot of news things ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrakelinux/devel/iso/2011/ Be careful, it's pre-release Looks interesting, but... Buyer Beware: It's not just "pre-release" at this point. It's not even Alpha...

A Firesign Theatre reference! I didn't think there was anyone else around who still remembered them.
Probably about the same number as those who remember Erwin Schrodinger's unfortunate cat.

(good news on 4.6, worth the wait)

Re: CPU fan problems

even the voltage supply fan doesn't allways work. I've noticed how its speed slows down and the pc goes off. I'd replace the power supply NOW.. before the fluctuating voltage causes critical damage to the rest of the PC. After 12 years I'd replace the CPU fan also, just as a matter of good practice...

Many years ago, more than I care to remember, as our family ate supper, Mother would often be asked "what's for dessert". The answer was always the same: "Wait And See Pudding"

Re: Fresh install, Firefox having trouble opening and lockin

I don't have an answer to your Firefox issue, but I'd like to point out that using the power button to force a shutdown is almost never a good idea (regardless of the OS). Basically, doing that cuts off the OS's ability to clean up after itself. A much better way to force a shutdown is to hold down ...

Re: i tried to search for this, but nada :(

The speed with which your PC runs with any OS is not affected in the least by any other OS residing on the PC but not currently running.. IE not currently using any resources. From the limited data shown in your post I'd have to say that the biggest factor limiting the speed of your PC, under any OS...

Re: What is your favorite car?

Back in April of 1970 my sister got engaged. About a week later she came to visit me and said: "Bob's really a great guy, but he's incredibly cheap. My car (an old mustang 6 cyl.) is in really rough shape, and I know Bob won't ever let me buy another car after we get married. I've got some mone...

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE

Will Mint 10.10 KDE have the same problem as Kubuntu 10.10?... I don't know about anyone else, but I've better things to do with my time than to speculate on solutions to problems that may or may not even exist in distributions that haven't even been released yet. Personally I've been anxiously awa...

I've downloaded Mint Debian. I want to burn it to a DVD. Do I have to select 'extract' first? The simplest answer to your question is "No". In fact the process very, very easy, but the actual steps vary depending on the software you're planning to use. Usually the process is something lik...

Re: Downloading too slow in Transmission

Hi. Am using Mint 10 (amd64). Whenever I start a torrent to download in Transmission, the upload quickly starts (not a problem). But even after a significant time it hates to download or the speed will be horribly slow :? The same torrent when I use in BitLord inside Windows 7 does the job like cha...

Re: New Userbars

I hate to sound like a grinch here, but I have to point out that some of the bars I've been seeing lately are getting a little fancier than need be (IMHO). I say this for several reasons. Some of them (the minority to be sure) take up so much real estate that they're really annoying. Some are even a...

Re: Linux pc to shut down computer or not ?

A little story: I once got a call from a customer who'd had me build a large number of servers for him over the course of several years. He needed to replace a cooling fan that had finally failed. After we'd finally finished processing the order for the fan he told me "I'm going to hate having ...

I can appreciate your frustration. Don't give up. We're pulling for you. FYI. Video drivers are written to control particular video chips. Nvidia drivers come in many flavors for the various versions of the Nvidia brand chips. However your chip is an Intel, so you need to run with the right driver f...
