Re: Should I Partition my Home folder

I have a separate /home which is helpful for installing same flavor to /root like Mint 14 Cinnamon to Mint 15 Cinnamon or KDE 14 to 15 by installing clean on /root and format assigning /home but not format for upgrading same family distro's. And I always use a partition backup program like Redo Bac...

Re: Possible Changes In Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander

For you perhaps...for me...just the opposite....Chrome rocks...but it is unfortunate that they can't change it to Chrome instead of Chromium because it is inferior in that it is a stripped down version of Chrome... Why do people always say it's a stripped down version? There's very little differenc...

Re: It's nice to be back in Mint!

This sounds familiar. :) Tried so many other distributions including red hat and slackware based distros. Nothing beats debian based distros. In particular, Ubuntu based distros. Maybe that's why my company, Kroger, (you may have heard of them) uses Debian in every store. It just works. Mind you, t...

Re: It's nice to be back in Mint!

I remember going through my distro hopping days. I tried an ungodly amount of distros over the years. I would always have my main install of a Debian variant, but would use other hard drives for testing. Guess what? Nothing beats the Debian Family of Linux. Others may wish to argue otherwise, but af...

Re: Fedora 18

"If being a beta tester is not for you, consider using something else." Wasn't considering it for myself. Those quotes were from others. And being a full number release don't think that means Beta version? Just sharing the news making it available to other's that may be considering it. . ...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

These days, installing Linux is easy in most cases. I work with a mentally challenged person at work who was able to install linux mint all by himself. That, all by itself, says A LOT about how far linux has come. Plus, I know a bunch of people I've installed linux for 2 or more years ago that are ...

Re: Fedora 18

Yep some of the negativity comes from just too rushed to release and buggy? That is the impression I'm getting from what I have read around so far. . Fedora exists for Red Hat. It never claimed to be a rock solid distro made for the average person. New things are introduced into Fedora, and after e...

Re: What if Ubuntu goes away

12/21/12 didn't end the world or Ubuntu Very true (and I'm very thankful for that  ). I doubt Ubuntu will ever go away completely, although I bet they said the same thing about Mandrake back in the day. But Ubuntu has been around 9 yrs now and still going strong. I doubt it's going anywhere fo...

Re: Linux disappointed me

I'm disappointed by the lack of out-of-the-box stability and functionality. On YOUR computer. Linux has been nothing but rock solid for me and everyone I've installed it for. I switched to linux because I had nothing but problems with windows. It can go both ways ya know. I've done 100's of install...

A little story

Becoming an Ex-Ubuntu Member (I don't mean forum member/actual Ubuntu Member/ 10,000 posts) was the best thing I ever did. After years of computer overload, my brain snapped. And to be honest, I really don't care for ANY tech sites any more. Hence, my exclusion from Ubu. I was one of the originals i...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

He forgot one think: be force to reinstall every 3 years. Just when thing run finally smoothly . You are force to open a new can of worm. Ummm, I used to reinstall windows every month or 2 for various reasons. One of the main reasons I switched to linux. And guess what? There are new versions of wi...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I'm using lxde right now, but who knows how long that will last. I get bored every few months and use something else. All DE's are good to me, and it really doesn't matter what I use.

I've resigned as a geek

I know most of you don't care, but I was a 10,000 post person on ubuntu.com., and did bug reporting for years, tried to help, but I've found I no longer wanna be a geek and sell/fix/figure out problems. I still love linux, and I know it well and I'm going to use it for myself, but there's no more lo...

Re: fallback mode

I honestly don't give 2 sh%ts about computers any more. I used to have a computer repair business, was an Ubuntu Member, had over 10,000 posts related to linux. Yada yada. Pffft. I'm done. Computer people are the most insane, self-righteous, I'm so pissed, I can't even think of the words. Sure, I co...

First off, gnome 3 can be made to act very similar to g2 with extensions. Secondly, am I the only person in the world who doesn't give a rat's @ss about what DE they use? I take pride in being able to adapt to anything thrown my way. I purposely install a new DE (actually I reinstall a different ver...

Just as Linux-detractors don't want to hear about why Linux sucks, so should we not want to hear any excuses about M[essy]S[horts]. All that junk is part and parcel of the M[ostly]S[hoddy] experience. I'm sure I could go on and on, but you get the point. Leave it to the lawyers and carnival barkers...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

Who cares? My computer runs perfectly. There's a reason I left the Ubuntu community. (I was a Member) after 8 years. It wasn't so so much because of ubuntu, but I'm pissed off in general at most computer people. I'm done with it. I did it for years, the arguing, the debating, the useless BS. I just ...
