Cool, sounds like new tactics are brewing with LMDE! With CrunchBang being done, I am looking forward to coming back to some new LMDE and Cinnamon...
Reading all this make me feel I will stay on CrunchBang Waldorf with backkported IceWeasel until LMDE 2 is ready.
Looking forward to it!

Wow, nice post with lots of good info and troubleshooting. Unfortunately, the research I have done has only led to steps you have already taken yourself! ... erm... so I guess I'm not much help. But! I will keep looking around and let you know if I run across anything. I too think it is odd that the...

Re: These Update Packs are still lacking some quality contro
It looks like at this stage of the game that the main goal between incoming and latest is to provided merely the documentation of issues. This allows the users a more straightforward way to find information on how to deal with update issues. Fixes/repairs to ensure latest stability isn't the goal at...

Re: Lost audio on laptop...not sure what caused it
Well, I was typing up a post to express similar problems, sound disappeared all of a sudden a while back, but in explaining things, I decided to see if sound worked with headphones or not. Plugged them in, and things worked. Pulled them out... and had sound from my laptop speakers too! (had previous...

Re: Partition Question
I grappled with the whole primary logical/extended partitions for a good long while. My understanding is that one can only have four primary partitions. Your setup is going to use three of the four as is. so if you ever want to dual boot, then the fourth partition would need to be extended and then ...

I hope you come to enjoy the land of Linux. I certainly have.
Since learning with Mint, ubuntu, et al, I've come to realize how much i didn't know back in the Windows days. I thought I knew some things... but now I'm learning!

Re: Configuration files on update. Keep or Replace?
I went with Yes when asked as well, and too have the Debian background at log in. I kind of like it! Shows the nice looking Debian background, then transforms into Mint as I log in. Looks cool, neat transition. As far as what is the appropriate thing to do... I dunno, I'm learning. Good to hear abou...

Re: LMDE vs. Debian
yep, straight up Debian is a nice way to run. And perfectly acceptable. As for whether to run LMDE or straight-Debian, for me, it's more based on community perspective and the viewpoint either Debian itself or the Linux Mint team are working from. Now that I've a little experience under my belt, str...

Re: Please tell us what you want to hear on the podcast
Hello again all. \o Just put up my votes about the podcast. Was difficult to choose!!! The idea that really struck me as have some interest for me was the user/community homework ideas. This could be pretty fun and get us listeners involved a bit. Interactive tutorials or something like that. Maybe ...

...was/am a bit worried about that very thing mektek, was wondering how things worked in practice... seems I've heard of similar problems with aptitude in the past, as it removes supposed leftover dependencies automatically with normal removals...? I guess we're back to frequent backups and trial an...

Re: which is safer? Synaptic or Software Manager to uninstal
wouldn't 'apt-get autoremove' perform the desired function? My understanding is that when one removes/purges a file with synaptic/apt-get, any dependencies that were installed with the program in question remain. 'apt-get autoremove' will then remove such leftover dependencies as long as there is no...

Re: LMDE in netbooks
I have just installed LMDE on my ZaReason Teo netbook and was quite surprised by how much I liked it! I too was biased against using Mint on a netbook because of the large size of MintMenu...but I wanted to give LMDE a whirl and my 13 inch laptop was down, so I stuck it on a partition on the netbook...

I wanted to say thanks for putting this LM Fluxbox edition together!
I've got it installed on a persistent USB to boot up into my ZaReason Teo netbook and am really enjoying it. Very sharp looking!
Thanks again!

[Solved] Fresh install with seperate /home partition.
Hi all, I've been hunting around for info, but have failed to find what I am looking for. Plenty of talk about why a dist-upgrade is bad, and plenty recommending a fresh install, and talk of how nice it is to have a seperate /home. I set that up for the first time with Mint7, and now trying to go to...

Re: Black screen after switch users, and logout
seems I have encountered a similar problem on my father-in-law's comp. moved from mint 7 to mint 9 by reinstalling to the / partition. Have seperate /home partition. Graphics would mess up. Would get a blinking screening randomly with some vertical white lines at the top. Saw the same behavior with ...

Re: Will you upgrade- or stay?
I will be upgrading via clean install. I am trying to slide into simply sticking with the LTS releases, but I came into mint with 7, so this will really be my first chance to see if I can resist the temptations for 6 month upgrades. Future plan is to stick with LTS installs, and play and tinker with...

Re: Is Linux too elitist?
I think things are turning around. I don't think Linux in general is too elitist. I suppose it would depend on which distro's community you are dealing with. I don't think the goals are the same for different distributions. There are some that probably would prefer if linux, or at least their distro...
