Installer crashing.

OK, I tried to install Linux Mint 12 Lisa 64 bit. At first all appeared to be going well, then at the end I got a message that the grub boot loader couldn't be installed to the directed path. So, I started over and re-directed the boot loader to a new destination. Got the same message. Then I went b...

Re: Which GPU to pick for Linux Mint?

Well, I finally decided on an ASUS GTX 550 Ti. It should be here early next week. In the Newegg customer reviews, one of the reviewers stated his worked in Linux, so perhaps it'll work for me. I'll come back and post my results. In the Linux Mint Community Hdwe listings, it shows the Nvidia GTX 550 ...

Which GPU to pick for Linux Mint?

I haven't used Linux Mint in a couple of years. but am looking forward to returning. I am retired now and have more time to try new things. My old GPU that I previously used with Linux, a Geforce 9800GTX+, died last week, about a week after I installed it in my new rig. Right now I'm using a 9600GSO...

Re: Most Mint Friendly Video Drivers (Nvidia/ATI) dual monit

Well, I can't tell you about new cards, but I've had two Nvidia GeForce cards that worked well on Linux, a 8600GT and a 9800GTX+. I never really thought about my cards much when it came to installing my first Linux Mint distro, I just decided to try Linux, chose Linux Mint, installed the program and...

Lost Linux Mint on Dual

I have been running a Dual Boot Laptop using Windows XP Pro and Linux Mint (Gloria). Due to problems I was having with the Windows XP I had to re-install it. Now I've lost the Linux installation, or at least I've lost the ability to access it. I also think there's a possibility that the drivers for ...

Question about setting up swap file during installation.

How do I properly handle setting up a "swap" partition during a Linux Mint installation from Live CD? I've tried it with no mount point, I've tried it by typing "swap" into the mount point entry line. Neither works. When I try it with nothing in mount point I get warnings that without a mount point ...

Re: Questions from a Newbie about Compiz

Well, I suppose that gives me answer I need. Apparently it won't work from the Live CD program. Once I install the appropriate driver, I have to reboot the computer for the installation to be effective and when I reboot the computer the Live CD program reverts back to it's defaults, no 3D driver. Th...

Questions from a Newbie about Compiz

Now that I've succeeded in getting the Live CD working on my laptop, via a thumbdrive, I'm really enjoying it and will be installing it on my laptop in the next few days. Most of the OS is very intuitive and very easy to use, except for Compiz. It doesn't seem to matter which of the features I selec...

Re: Linux Mint 7 Live CD not working on Laptop

Yep. It's very puzzling. I have considered several possibilities and can't figure out which, if any, is the problem. Bad Burner? Never had any problems with it before. It's an LG Super-Duper does it all drive and I've used it to make piles of audio cd's, DVD's, data cd's/dvd's with no problems. And ...

Linux Mint 7 Live CD not working on Laptop

I created a Linux 7 Live CD per the instructions supplied in the User Guide. It loads perfectly on my desktop and everything works great.............no problems. Like the OS and I'm certain it would be much faster if not working off the CD. However, everytime I try to load it on my Laptop, I get a s...
