Re: What type of computer or device do you primarily use?

I have a couple of desktops that I put together, mostly from discarded or hand-me-down parts from my son who is a gamer. One is a 32 bit, but still runs nicely with Peppermint OS. I think desktops are more ergonomically friendly, at least for me, and I like a bigger monitor than most laptops have. P...

Had mine for about 4 years now and it's still going strong.
Do they grow less strong when they are failing or do they just go Kaput? :)

I just wish they would stop changing the icons and moving them around on the spreadsheet with each major update.

Re: User Tracking: Android vs. iOS, Google vs. Apple

On my phone, a Moto G, wifi is turned off when in Airplane Mode - although it can be turned on separately.

I have data turned off at my phone company's control panel, except on rare occasions when I might need it (and for economic reasons as data usage is charged separately). I have Ting mobile.

LibreOffice (especially Calc). I keep a lot of personal information, such as my banking, on protected spreadsheets.
Rainlendar calendar.
FIrefox (well secured) for banking and commerce and Chromium for general browsing.

AZgl1500, What's the difference between that and putting it in Airplane Mode until ready to use or receive calls?

It's about time!
(Actually, time is already exactly defined by oscillations of a caesium atom.)

Re: Puzzles , logic and lateral thinking .

I do not consider it fiendishly difficult, but I have seen it take some people far too long to answer this question. Which word is spelled incorrectly in the dictionary? incorrectly. I get depressed thinking about the number of times I have had to explain the answer to this one. Mike is an assistan...

An Android phone without Google apps would be great! I imagine the app vendors will not be happy without the Google Play store being available for Europe.

Re: Hurricane Michael

Just some bands of rain and gusts up to 40 mph in the Tampa Bay area.

A category 4 hurricane could be devastating to the panhandle. That would be the strongest storm to ever hit that area.

Hope those that decided to ride out the storm will be OK.

Speaking of U.S. English spelling eliminating the "u" in colour, honour, flavour, harbour, labour, etc. Think of all the time, money and space saved by not using the useless u! Faster typing, less paper all make for better efficiency. Think of the economy! As an added thought to ponder, why do we al...

Re: Light Linux Distributions for Old Computers

Peppermint is based on Ubuntu but has elements from Mint, such as Mint's update manager. I've run both Lubuntu and Peppermint and much prefer the latter, as it has many more features and is nearly as lightweight. Peppermint combines elements of both LXDE and Xfce, but they are gradually shifting awa...
