Re: Non-Windows laptops?

I have an Acer c720 with Mint 17.3 that has the Chrome keyboard and mouse firmware so both work great. Replaced the 16GB SSD with a 128GB SSD in that one. Also have a Samsung Chromebook 3 running Gallium 2.1. This entire distro is made for Chromebooks with the special keyboard and mouse firmware. N...

It might be good for some business or student applications but not for the majority of users. Definitely not for me!

Another vote for Audacious. I also use it to convert my old music CDs to Ogg format (it supports many formats).

Re: Ubuntu 17.10 Vs Mint

I agree with Pjotr. The October releases of the different Ubuntu versions are test beds for the April releases. In this case, the April 2018 releases will have long term support and will contain some interesting Ubuntus. Ubuntu Budgie will have a lot of new improvements and Lubuntu will be using LXQ...

Re: Asus mini laptop

The eeepc 900 and 1000 were a later release with slightly more oomph. But no.matter what they sucked due due to their out of order execution atom processor. Oh, no doubt they are obsolete compared to modern computers. Nevertheless, It's fun to try to make old equipment work successfully with Linux....

Re: Asus mini laptop

I have an eeepc 900 with a 4GB ssd which I still use occasionally. It came with 512MB of ram. I've found that it runs very well with Puppy Linux. I increased the ram to 1GB and now run Peppermint OS and Lubuntu successfully. It's best to run those from an SDHC card or USB memory stick. I install tho...

Re: Lightweight Linux distros

I just put BunsenLabs Linux on a 10 year old low-spec. Compaq Presario, and it really flies. BL is a successor to CrunchBang and uses Debian with Openbox. It's easier to use than CrunchBang was and has a lot of extras added to OB.

Re: Sounds ominous for HP printer owners . . . . . . .

I wonder if the "firmware update" would include the HPLIP drivers for Linux? Otherwise, I never use the HP printer software.

Well, Gnome is going to be even more popular now that Ubuntu is dropping Unity in favor of Gnome.

Hi Scorp and Npap!

Npap, you're looking good! Have you found a youth elixir? If so, I can use some. :D

Scorp, if your avatar is your picture, all I can say is you must have had a hard life!

Happy Holidays to you and everyone on the Mint forum.

Re: THE MINT CAFE

It will be 10 years next week when I joined the Mint forum. Npap was here to give me a warm welcome. :) I started out using Mint 2.0 Barbara and have used more than half of the Mint editions since then. I've tried many different Linux distributions but I'm still using Mint as my main desktop, due to...

I've had no problems at all so far with Mint 18 Cinnamon. MP3s play fine and my phone connects flawlessly. I assume he checked the box for the non-free co...

Re: THE MINT CAFE

I sold it to a 200 year old young lady in 2410 who installed MInt 86 on it and went to visit her ancestors in 2130. It was in great shape, only had 45,000 years on the ageometer.
