Re: Hurricane Michael

Just some bands of rain and gusts up to 40 mph in the Tampa Bay area.

A category 4 hurricane could be devastating to the panhandle. That would be the strongest storm to ever hit that area.

Hope those that decided to ride out the storm will be OK.

Re: Forum edits my posts, deletes spaces... Not cool. :( [will concede to CLOSED]

Speaking of U.S. English spelling eliminating the "u" in colour, honour, flavour, harbour, labour, etc. Think of all the time, money and space saved by not using the useless u! Faster typing, less paper all make for better efficiency. Think of the economy! As an added thought to ponder, why do we al...

Re: Light Linux Distributions for Old Computers

Peppermint is based on Ubuntu but has elements from Mint, such as Mint's update manager. I've run both Lubuntu and Peppermint and much prefer the latter, as it has many more features and is nearly as lightweight. Peppermint combines elements of both LXDE and Xfce, but they are gradually shifting awa...

Re: Anyone got any interesting hobbies?

Used to do a bit of sailing in my younger days, in everything from a sea snark to a catamaran to an aircraft carrier. I collect old postcards and history stuff of the local area. I have a butterfly garden, although my son does most of the work. Currently have a few Eastern Black Swallowtails in a me...

Re: What is your favorite internet search engine and why?

I use two browsers. Chromium for general browsing, social media, etc. I use Google search for that because I find it gives the best results, especially when it comes to searching using time frames. I also find it better for finding images of a specified size (compared to DuckDuckGo). I use Firefox f...

Re: My upgrade experience

I haven't had any problems at all with Mint 19 Cinnamon. I'm using an desktop built with a dual core Athlon 64 5000+. I did a fresh install on a couple of partitions for / and home, as I usually do, and leaving Mint 18.3 in place. If I have to I can go back to 18, but so far I like 19. I'm using the...

The font that came with Mint 19 Cinnamon is OK if they're increased 2 points larger!

Re: Name that Movie

Yep Rufus T. Firefly (Graucho Marx) in Duck Soup. Some more funny banter in the movie: Rufus T. Firefly: Not that I care, but where is your husband? Mrs. Teasdale: Why, he's dead. Rufus T. Firefly: I bet he's just using that as an excuse. Mrs. Teasdale: I was with him to the very end. Rufus T. Firef...

For Linux I use Rainlendar free version. It has many different skins and formats. Only the paid version allows syncing between computers.

Is it better than AisleRiot? I'm kind of hooked on Freecell.

I've read that doctors have used Freecell as an indicator of how well old folk's (like me) brain cells are still working. I keep hoping that if I play it enough some reversal will take place. :)

@ slipstick:
I do about the same thing. I don't move all my personal files in my old /home partition to the new /home (such as my Calibre library), but just mount that partition when I need to access it.
