Re: Please recommend calendar app without sync

For Linux I use Rainlendar free version. It has many different skins and formats. Only the paid version allows syncing between computers.

Re: KPatience

Is it better than AisleRiot? I'm kind of hooked on Freecell.

I've read that doctors have used Freecell as an indicator of how well old folk's (like me) brain cells are still working. I keep hoping that if I play it enough some reversal will take place. :)

@ slipstick:
I do about the same thing. I don't move all my personal files in my old /home partition to the new /home (such as my Calibre library), but just mount that partition when I need to access it.

Re: Another email topic

I've also written about this before :) I've been with FastMail for a long while and use them for others as well. I also use Fastmail. After a lot of research, it was the most recommended paid service. At only $30 US a year (without hosting), it is well worth it. It's hosted out of Australia. Any qu...

In the Tampa Bay beaches of Florida where I live, It's sometimes called "Ontario South" during the winter. That's alright though, if one can cope with the traffic, those Canadian visitors help keep our taxes low. I agree with Damien. Boston is the worst driving experience I've ever had the displeasu...

Re: Any negative ramifications for using multiple-Google-account sign-in setup?

If you use different name variations (initials, nickname, etc) how would they know they are all the same person and not just different people in the household with the same IP address? They can recognise the device because of browser fingerprinting. They wouldn't know if you were sharing a computer...

Re: Cashless Society is getting closer

Someone mentioned using checks. That's probably the unsafest form of payment there is. A check has all your bank information, name and address, your signature and usually your phone number. Every once in a while i get behind someone in a grocery store taking their good old time to write out a check.

Re: Whats everyone currently listening to?

The never ending ring of tinnitus. There's OTC stuff you can take to help with that. Even Wally World has some in their HBA section. I haven't found anything but that homeopathic stuff that never works. I hear wind chimes in one ear and ocean waves in the other. At times I swear I can pick up a rad...

Main computer - Mobo: ASUStek M2NSLi with dual core AMD Athlon 64x2 5000+. Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 5670. Memory: 4 GB. WD 500 GB drive. Total cost = $0, hand-me-down and salvaged parts from my son. (Hummm, I think I paid for these parts when they were new! )

Very nice article on Mint: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/lin ... tools.html
Very good, especially coming from Dedoimedo, who can be very critical of any small flaws he comes upon.

I like Fastmail, hosted out of Australia. Totally professional and no ads, data mining or 3rd party sharing. You're allowed a large number of aliases. $30 per year for 2000 mb of storage.

Still liking the idea but you may want to see this:

Well, that's discouraging. Who would pay that much for a Chromebook?

If you are bored with Mint, try installing LInux From Scratch or "Go nuts with NuTyX". :)

Re: Linux programs come to Chromebooks

I have a budget Samsung 3 Chromebook and it would be nice to be able to run LibreOffice on it. I use a lot of spreadsheets, some with personal information, and prefer to keep them stored locally. One advantage of a Chromebook, even the cheap ones, is the ability to run games and apps from the Google...

It really sounds good. I'll have to try Mint 19 (along side 18.3). I haven't missed many Mint editions. The only one I didn't like was the Fluxbox version way back when. :)

Another vote for Peppermint 8. Running on an old Compaq laptop, it only uses 193 MB out of 2 GB ram. I like it a lot.
