Re: Linux Mint 13 "Maya" released!

(1) Is it just me or the Software Manager is much slower in this release?

(2) Where should I report bugs?
I am sure this is an old question, but it's quite confusing with all the Launchpads, GIT, fora, Community, etc... I never know where to report bugs for Linux distributions and packages.

Thanks

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I have to say, that I find it a little strange to hear that Gnome-Shell is unusable, etc... Let me explain some of the reasons why, in my opinion, Gnome Shell is a step backwards in efficiency, usability and ergonomics: [*] I have no visibility of the windows and applications I am working with. The...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2000 We’ve also heard your opinion, via the poll, and we acknowledge the fact that the most popular environments within our community are Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce and KDE. Going forward, we’ll focus primarily on these desktops. Does this mean that we won't have the LXDE ver...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

I have voted already. I have my preferences, like everybody else. But IMHO, the Linux Community is putting way too much effort and time in this DE craziness, considering the problems that are still keeping it from reaching to the general public. I recommend to read some of the comments in http://lin...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

LXDE: Definitely. Must be kept alive for older/slower computers. MATE: Robust. For my main box. In my opinion, Cinnamon is not there yet. It is slow, not robust enough yet, doesn't get along well with my NVIDIA hardware, some things are still broken, not much more features than MATE, less customizat...

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

Finally!!! What a frustrating and useless waste of time... SOLUTION Install the package ttf-mscorefonts-installer I ignore if I had it installed before UP4 and, if so, why it was uninstalled after UP4. I hate when the updates become regressions. Many thanks äxl. Your remarks led me to figure w...

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

I think I had an idea but it's 6AM so I go to bed. :D Did you sleep well? Fine... what was that idea? :D If found out that the line triggering the problem in (for example) http://www.linuxmint.com/start/debian/ is: <link href="./Start Page - Linux Mint_files/start.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/c...

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

Thanks zerozero. I have Java 6.31 installed now. Any idea why it is not updated anymore by the repositories? Anyhow, this does not solve the problem with Firefox. I have spent hours looking for information. Read tens of pages and threads and nobody seems to have the same problem (really?..). All I k...

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

[*] I took my screen shots from http://www.linuxmint.com/start/debian/ I don't have any blocker installed. I have 6.26-1 Regard the minus. But I don't think they are outdated. For Linux. [*] Latest version for Linux is 6.31 http://www.java.com/en/download/linux_manual.jsp I wonder why the updated do...

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

See captures attached.

Also, I have noticed that Java packages are outdated (6.26.1) and Synaptic doesn't allow me to Mark them for Reinstallation.

Re: Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape broken after UP4

No. Even doing Ctrl+A the same parts remain hidden. If I do: Select -> Right click -> View selection source, everything is there in the source code, but Firefox does not render some parts. For example, in linuxmint.com , although Firefox's source viewer recognizes: <div class="article"><h1>Linux Min...

[SOLVED] Firefox doesn't show some text after UP4

After UP4, Firefox / Iceweasel / Iceape are acting very weird. I have tried complete removal, re-installing, removing .mozilla, disabling add-ons, diabling plugins, etc I am out of ideas. Behaviour: for example [*] in http://www.linuxmint.com/ Firefox shows the blog items but not the headers/titles....

Feature request? Hide "System up-to-date" icon

Is there a way way to hide the "System up-to date" icon? (closed lock with the check mark).

It really bothers me having this useless icon taking real estate in my panel.

Ideally, I think, it should only show when there are updates available.

Thanks.

Re: Guest Session

Hello all. I am a newbie Mint user coming from Ubuntu (where I was a newbie too). Here's my two cents: - I personally think the Guest User feature is in line with the philosophy of LinuxMint. I don't care what Windows does, please don't be over-reactionary. - Other Linux distributions do include the...
