Re: When will this forum site get a new modern design?
Gotta say, there are a lot of opinions being thrown around here. Remember that just because something doesn't work well for you doesn't mean that's the case for everyone else. I get along just fine with my phone and actually enjoy using it for tasks other than phone calls. I especially appreciate th...

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.2 can`t detect SSD main storage
I ran into a similar situation with 19.3 and didn't have this problem with 19.2 on a Macbook Air (2015 model) with UEFI and an SSD. Per Clem's suggestion I added noapic as a kernel boot option and that made the SSD available for installation.

Re: When will this forum site get a new modern design?
Seems like the best approach would be to run two front-ends to the forum? Perhaps upon first visit the user is presented with two options, one for the current design and another option for a newer modern design. I'm all for a fresh coat of paint and new features as long as it doesn't involve megabyt...

Re: Linux Mint 19.3 'Tricia' What are your First Impressions?
Not sure if anyone else ran into this issue but this is the first release where after successfully installing the system, I rebooted and it dropped to initramfs. Thanks to Clem's suggestion, I added "noapic" as a kernel boot option and that fixed it. I updated grub and everything seems to ...

Re: Taking the Plunge
I had a similar experience. I have an iMac but wasn't quite happy with it. I found Ubuntu and bought a Dell Inspiron 1420n with Ubuntu pre-installed. I now use the Xfce version of Mint on all of my computers.

Auto-connect to network drive with pyNeighborhood? [SOLVED]
First off, I guess, is it better to use pyNeighborhood or Gigolo for this task? pyNeighborhood is working for me right now but maybe Gigolo offers more? This is probably simple, but how can I connect to my external network hard drive with either Gigolo or pyNeighborhood when I start my computer? Tha...

Re: Linux Mint 9 Xfce RC released!
Yep, that would be smart thing to do. In fact, as often as I add/change/reinstall distros it's pretty silly of me not to have done so by now. One question however, (pardon my noobiness-it's only been about 4 months since I blew windoze off.) i noticed that Xfce or Thunar, cannot see the other...

Re: KDE, XFCE vs others
Xfce in Mint (especially Mint 7) has been lots faster than Gnome on my old hand-me-down machine. It's kinda sorta like what "Gnome Lite" would be if there was such a thing. I tried a bunch of different DEs (Openbox, LXDE, KDE, Gnome, and Xfce) before choosing a favorite. For me Xfce is th...

I pretty much stick to anything Samuel Adams these days. The Blackberry Witbier is awesome but I really look forward to the Octoberfest in the fall season.

I've been getting into dubstep a lot lately. "Prituri Se Planinata" by Stellamara (NiT GriT Remix) is a good one.

I don't know of an app that does that but http://www2.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php is nifty. It saves the output as .wav.

Re: Is your computer on/off when your not using it?
I guess the only reason why I leave mine on is because CrashPlan backs up my shtuff at night. I suppose I could change that or it would be nice to have it suspend my computer after it's done.

Re: Is your computer on/off when your not using it?
I generally leave mine on 24/7 unless the power goes out (like last night). I have it set to lock screen when the laptop is closed.
$ uptime
16:07:18 up 18:18, 2 users, load average: 0.87, 0.94, 0.97
I also own a TonidoPlug which is definitely on 24/7 so that I can access it remotely.

Great job, merlwiz! The XFCE edition of Mint 9 is the best distro that I have come across. I'm diggin' the default menu and control center. Thanks to you and the Mint gang for all of your efforts.

Re: Linux Mint 8 RC1 Bug Thread
I seem to be having problems viewing all of my files in Nautilus. I created a quick screencast which you can access at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1113957/Nautilus_Problem.ogv (my public Dropbox directory) You can see that the photos are viewable in Terminal but Nautilus just hangs. If I restart they wi...
