Re: MS Edge for Linux

Timeshift did the trick. Wasn't really worried about getting rid of it, just pissed off that Microsoft feels they can treat Linux users who decide to take a look at Edge like they treat Windows users, by NOT providing a simple straightforward way to rid their system of MS junk once they've given it ...

Re: MS Edge for Linux

The most troubling aspect of installing Microsoft Edge on my Linux Mint 20 laptop is that not only did the novelty (if there ever really was any) wear off after a very brief time, but when I decided I wanted it gone there's no obvious way to uninstall it. It doesn't show up in Mint's Software Manage...

Re: [SOLVED] How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

That did it. No more 'MenuLibre'. 'Mozo v1.22.0-1 Tina' is now in place and once again I can edit the MATE menu flawlessly, without the screw-ups that 'MenuLibre' brought with it. Problem truly SOLVED!..

Re: [SOLVED] How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

Installed a fresh Linux Mint 19.2 MATE on another laptop, and ran into this exact problem - 'MenuLibre' wouldn't edit the ' Applications Places System ' menu without screwing up what I wanted it to do. So I opened Synaptic, refreshed the cache, and found 'Mozo 1.22' available to install. Ran the ins...

Re: [SOLVED] How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

Well, that's good to know. Everything's good now, but should that happen again - it shouldn't, but if it does - I'll have more information to work with, saving myself lots of time. At this point the question I'm left with is 'WHY?" would Mint leave the ever reliable 'Mozo' menu editor behind an...

Re: How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

" ...if you fresh install there is no Mozo, only MenuLibre, you'd have to install Mozo yourself. But when you upgrade you do keep it.. " That explains it. MenuLibre is certainly not as easy to work with as Mozo is. Glad when I did the online upgrade that Mozo 1.20 stayed in place as the de...

Re: How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

No, not the 'menulibre' editor, it was the 'mozo' menu editor that gave me fits in the fresh install of LM 19.2 Mate' that I did. Now that I've backtracked, reinstalled LM 19.1 Mate', then did the online upgrade to LM 19.2, 'mozo' looks, acts and works like it should, like it always has - a huge dif...

Re: How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

Thanks for the information, gm10. Originally I did the online upgrade from LM 19.1 Mate to 19.2. It worked well and Mate's 'mozo' menu editor gave me no problems at all - worked as it always has. Then, in a case of what I'll attribute to a 'senior moment', after installing a second ssd device upping...

[SOLVED] How can I replace 'mozo 1.22' with 'mozo 1.20'?

How would I go about replacing 'mozo 1.22', the Linux Mint 19.2 Mate' menu editor, with 'mozo 1.20', the preceding version used in Mint 19.1. For my purposes 'mozo 1.20' works far better, far more intuitively than the newer 'mozo 1.22' does. Any help with removing 'mozo 1.22' and replacing it with '...

Re: Observations on life

I have lived in Houston and LA. I have driven in Chicago, but the absolute nightmare commute--without a doubt was here: During the middle 70's I lived in Phoenix and the Salt River had not had a trickle of water in decades, and even most Salt River highway and street crossings were just built acros...

Re: Wine install Mint 19 Mate

I thought it was quite obvious...if installing Wine on 18.3 is so easy and so hard...if not impossible on 19 then the fault is clearly with 19 and the smart thing to do as I did was keep using 18.3 until 19.1 comes out...but that's just me. 8) Ok, I get what you were saying. There's nothing wrong w...

Re: Installing Linux Mint 19 from ISO, please read, EFI installs only

Thanks for the heads up Jeremy! Picked up a new ASUS VivoBook S14 i7 a couple of days ago and about beat myself up trying to figure out why installing LM 19 Mate' failed each time when installing Grub2. Should have looked for answers here to begin with, but I'm sometimes stubborn that way! Anyway, l...

Wallpaper displays with a 'double image' in LM Mate' 18.3

What would cause every wallpaper choice I make to display with a double image, specifically a smaller wallpaper image superimposed over larger a full size image, in Linux Mint 18.3 Mate'? Re: LM18 Mate' troublesome menu problems..

Going back to 17.3 Mate' until such time as a solution to these menu system bugs becomes available. Hopefully this happens soon, well before LM 18.1 is released. In the meantime LM 17.3 Mate', a rock solid release, remains the best choice for daily driver machines.

Re: LM18 Mate' troublesome menu problems..

If I boot to a live LM 18 Mate' session everything works fine. If I do a fresh installation of LM 18 the ' Applications - Places - System ' menu works as it should. If I do an upgrade from from 17.3 to 18, either using Clem's just published upgrade instructions or a standard DIY approach, everything...
