Re: who needs a dual boot when u can run virtual box

For those of us that do things like system testing, having real hardware (as opposed to virtualized) makes a lot of difference when trying to isolate bugs.

Petition to end software patents in the US.

I stumbled across this earlier this evening. Basically it's a petition to direct the US patent office to cease issuing new software patents and to nullify existing ones based on their negative economic impact and the fact that the patent office originally declared software as non-patentable as it wa...

Re: Make a commerical for linux mint.

Find a computer manufacturer who is willing to sponsor... I can easily say from experience that finding hardware sponsors is often an exercise in futility. In fact it's painfully difficult to even find hosting sponsorship most of the time. Sponsors look for some type of mutual benefit and 99% of th...

Re: It says I'm connected, but it is lying

Is there any type of MAC filtering set up in the router? Some routers I've seen block traffic to specified (or non-specified depending upon configuration) devices, while some simply prevent those devices from connecting altogether. Outside of that I can well attest that Mint 11 should have no networ...

Re: Heavy development has started on a new Fluxbox edition.

I have the Xfce .iso file to work with. The rejected Fluxbox .iso on the community site was essentially more of a mock-up than anything, just a means of testing to make sure everything was on the right track. I didn't want to base on the RC anyway as there were a lot of issues therein. Since the maj...

~/.cache/chromium

~ indicates your home directory and . indicates that it's hidden by default. Open up your file manager to your home directory and press Ctrl+H and it should display hidden directories.

Not Mint LXDE, but identical from the standpoint of desktop customization. This page should come in handy:

The script seems correct so there is likely something else at work here. I'll post a link to a patched version of lxsession when I get home. When I do, Install it and see if the issue persists.

Re: Mint 12 to maintain a classic desktop in addition to Uni

Second, issues like this get brought up because they aren't answered by the Mint development team and it is up to the community to indulge in speculation because the Gnome codebase Mint is currently based on is being phased out. Decisions such as these are actually made fairly late. It's a combinat...

Re: Is there a 64bit LXDE version?

Thus far the decision has come down to Clem regarding the lack of a 64 bit LXDE edition. Essentially, the non-Gnome editions continue to make up a significant minority of overall Linux Mint use and the majority of people opting for 64 bit have no issue with running the heavier desktops. It's also an...

Re: Microsoft has Abandoned Silverlight and All Other Plugin

Well, it's about time we started seeing some decent HTML5 support from them. Thus far the dev preview of Windows 8 with IE10 seems to be remarkably standards compliant compared to past few iterations of IE. Maybe one day in the next year or so I'll be able to just write one CSS file for everything r...

I'm close to having the mintInput rewrite finished. As such it's time to start adding translations to it. Thanks in advance to anyone who can contribute, please don't forget to put the exact locale code with any submissions (for example: "pt_BR" for Brazilian Portuguese). Anyone wishing to...

Re: Choosing sound output device in Mint 11 LXDE

It may be possible to enable the hardware buttons in the Openbox .rc file. I'll check on my X201 and see what I can come up with. Beyond this, I have a neighbor with an X220 and he may be down for some debugging if I ask nicely.

Close Chromium, delete the ~/.cache/chromium directory, open Chromium. This will take out everything in the browser, but "everything" includes the custom search.

Re: dependencies?

When running the "configure" script, you'll often get verbose output in the terminal. When the script fails, it'll tell you what library the app needs. Do to the variety of naming conventions used by different distros it usually helps to just to google the last couple of lines of output fr...

Re: how to make .deb files from source?

There is no good gui method as far as I know, however it's really not all that difficult if you're willing to put some effort into it. The critical tool you'll need here is called "dh-make" and can easily be installed with the software manager. Do some reading an the functionality of dh-ma...
