You can use that Mint USB to run the memory test. You will see it listed on the Grub menu. As mentioned, let it run for a long time for best results. This does sound like it might be a problem with faulty memory...

Re: Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-HD2 motherboard

The first thing I would do is try Mint 18.2 AND/OR Mint 18.3 to see if you get better results.

Re: Help request - Mint won't boot up properly

I have not experimented with TImeshift - so I don't know about the "Restore" process. But, if the problem is that your root partition is full, how is "Restore" going to improve that situation??? Why not just move the entire Timeshift folder to the other hard drive, to create free...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

When I run blkid now, I only have two partitions: sda1 and sda5. One of them has like 900GB or more. I guess I can always repartition stuff if I don't like that. I guess I don't care that much. I never use extended partitions because they are slightly less stable than primary partitions. What does ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

I think it will be ok this time. It's taking much longer because it's doing ALL of the installation . Before, it probably just wrote 18 Sylvia somewhere and stopped and said it was done. There have been instances when the installation fails because at the end of the installation you click on ...

Re: Linux Mint 18 installation

I notice that everyone on Youtube just allocates off of sda (new partition table, then / first). But am I supposed to assume that I MUST put / first? Why? If you have made partitions before-hand (which is what I do, also), you do have to tell the installation program which partition to use for / in...

You are going to need a live Mint USB drive or DVD for installation. That would give you the bash command capabilities, as well.

You will need to boot the office computer with a live Mint USB drive.
Windows is not capable of creating a linux file system on the hard drive.

Re: Mint on 4k usage

I have the same size drives as you do, with a 128GB SSD and a 1TB hard drive. Mint is installed on the SSD on a 30GB partition (20GB is usually sufficient). The personal data (photos, music, etc.) is on a big data partition on the big hard drive. Can you free up 20 to 30GB on the 128GB drive? What i...

Re: Installed Kernel 4.13 now the boot menu selection doesn't show

I think the best thing to do would be to mark this thread SOLVED (go to your first post, click on the pencil EDIT icon, and add SOLVED to the title).
Then create a new thread with your question about the wifi.
Otherwise, things could get very confusing...

Re: Installed Kernel 4.13 now the boot menu selection doesn't show

Reviewing what just happened, and the last line, gives me pause... Is Terminal finished? appears to be still working... Setting up grub-gfxpayload-lists (0.7) . it will not respond to me trying to enter any commands... As long as you got the prompt john@john-TP500LA ~ $ afterwards, it did complete....
