Re: Home partition

I was able to find a tutorial to add the uuid and other info to fstab. So far, my files are no longer listed as a separate device and are available from the home menu. Thanks again and I will try the GUI method if the problem happens again.

Re: Home partition

Thank you for the responses. I will take a whack at the fstab option but I don't have much experience with command line or using text editors. I might just have to reinstall Linux and make sure that I set up the home partition correctly. Thanks

Home partition solved

I just upgraded to Mint 18.3 Cinnamon and already had an existing home partition so that I would not lose files when upgrading, However, it has been a long time since I upgraded and during installation I forgot to mount the separate partition as /home. Now, my files are showing as if they are on a s...

Audacity and Audio Recorder line in option

I recently reinstalled Linux Mint 17 Mate and lost all of the plugins that I had previously installed. I am attempting to transfer cassette tapes to my computer. I have a 3.5mm cord going from the line out of the tape player to the blue line in on the computer. Pulse audio looks like it is detecting...

Re: Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

The plot thickens. Last weekend I switched from Mint 17 Mate to Cinnamon and then back to Mate because Cinnamon was not behaving. Somehow, this last time I switched, it kept my home directory from Cinnamon and now I have 2 home directories. I have some files from the Cinnamon distribution that got c...

Re: Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

Thank you, Slipstick. My previous computer was a Dell Dimension from 2005 and was very outdated. I was given this HP computer last summer from a friend who had it in his basement. I really don't have the money to put towards computer upgrades right now so if I have to stay with Mint 17 Mate, that is...

Re: Nvidia driver and Mint 17 Cinnamon

Jeremy - I switched from mint 17 mate to cinnamon and it took me a long time to get cinnamon installed because my Nvidia video card does not like linux. I don't know how I did it but I booted the disk into compatibility mode and was able to install cinnamon that way. In regular mode it kept freezing...

Re: Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

Derek - thank you for writing back. I had a terrible time getting Mint 17 Cinnamon to install because I have a Nvidia card and the installation disk kept freezing up during the "something else" section. I ended up having to do the install in compatibility mode because the screen kept freezing. I did...

Re: Nvidia driver and Mint 17 Cinnamon

Something must be missing from the sound settings because there is no option for switch from HSP/HFP to A2DP. When I click on my headphones to test the speakers, the pop up box only has a mono test. Is there something else that I need to install? Thanks.

Re: Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

Thank you for your help. Say I wanted to upgrade to 17.1, would it leave the /home partition alone or would I need to tell it to do that?

Re: Nvidia driver and Mint 17 Cinnamon

We are getting closer. I have sound going to my headphones but it is really muffled. I went in to the sound settings and clicked on my headphones and the only option to set them up is in mono. Aren't I supposed be setting these up as A2DP? That option is not in the sound settings. Thanks for you help.

Re: Nvidia driver and Mint 17 Cinnamon

Jeremy, here we go again. I bought the Iomega bluetooth dongle as you suggested and switched to Mint cinnamon instead of mate because it has better bluetooth support. Here is the output you requested. Thank you for looking at this.

Re: Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

Thank you for writing back. When I installed Mint last night I chose the something else option. I set up a / partition, a / home partition and a swap area and that's it. After the installation went through, I went into gparted to check everything out and discovered the extra extended partition and o...

Nvidia driver and Mint 17 Cinnamon

I have an Nvidia driver GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. I installed Mint 17 Cinnamon today and everything is pretty much up and running except when I connect my bluetooth headphones. My headphones are saying that they are connected but every time I try to play any type of media, there is no sound and eve...

Solved Setting up partitions for Mint 17 Cinnamon

For the past few years I have only set up a / mount point and a swap partition but this time I thought I would give adding a /home partition a shot. I went into gparted after installing Mint 17 Cinnamon and found that somehow there is an extra partition called Extended in there. Any suggestions as h...
