Re: Nvidia Graphics Drivers - Install Guide

I have been through the mill several times with Squeeze and LMDE and NVIDIA drivers before coming across this post. http://tinyplanet.ca/~lsorense/debian/debian-nvidia-dri-howto.html Nice and simple, I has worked painlessly several times for me, on several different platforms. Just remember to run n...

Gnome Shell .. What have I missed

As its that time of year when can all get excited about a new distro I figured I would do things a little differently this time round and have been playing around with VirtualBox, Fedora, SuSe and particularly anything to do with Gnome-Shell. And its Gnome-Shell I could use your help or opinion with...

Re: is there any way to work .net in linux

Hi Zebu

You might get somewhere with Mono http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page, I have not used it myself but have come across a few people who seam to rate it.
I would avoid wine. It is possible and I have had .net running but it wasn't stable.

hope this is of some help, good hunting

Solved: Help needed to remove Pulse Audio

Hi oOarthurOo Thanks for the tip on aptitude, I have been using apt-get or synaptic up to now. Aptitude is kind of neat once you get use to it and the more I use it the more I have wanted to use. It looks as if "alsactl store" was the bit I was missing from previous attempts. I dont know why PA is i...

Re: Help needed to remove Pulse Audio

Thanks Vicshrike My main problem is with the mike breaking up in VOIP apps. I switched to LMDE from Squeeze and didn't have problems before making the switch so I figured it was caused by Pulse which I always thought was flaky under Ubuntu. Not to worry I will bite the bullet and go with a purge on ...

Help needed to remove Pulse Audio

Hi I could use some help removing Pulse Audio and installing ALSA in LMDE. I have seen several text's all hinting at this being more complex than apt-get purge for removal and I am not entirely sure what I should then install to get a full ALSA system. I'm running 32 bit BTW. Any help appreciated, t...

Re: question about LMDE

You can find information on the Debian Skype repo here
http://wiki.debian.org/skype
Google Chrome can be downloaded from the web and will point to its own repro as part of the installation.

Re: Updating Firefox and Thunderbird

I tend to agree about this method of updating FF and T/Bird, that said at least we get up to date versions with bug fix's and security updates. Take care with the Debian Icexxx apps. I have been running squeeze for some time and have just switched to LMDE, one of my reasons for doing so was improved...

Adding to the path variable

Remove ALL boot backgrounds

I am looking for some help in managing all the splash and backgrounds that are displayed during the entire boot sequence. I run 2 monitors and have become a little board watching the system load up to 5, I think including resizing usplash, different "displays" on the way to starting the desktop. I w...

One desktop, two screens .... two backgrounds ?

I have two monitors of different resolutions, 1280x800 - main - and to it's right 1024x768. I was wondering if there was a way to have gnome display different background images on each of my monitors. KDE operates this way so I know my graphics card will do it, I just have no idea how to set up gnom...
