Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

I am New to linux thank you for this post my only problem is im running cinnamon not mate or kde what would the " code" be for this to type into cli ? All versions of LinuxMint use the same DM, (desktop manager) so the commands would be the same. Good luck and welcome to computing bliss, ...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

well, for one, youre using the beta driver, "325.08" is the beta, i know cuz thats one im using, and i always use the beta, i just like to test them out, you should try out the 319 ones and see if that fixes the wavy lines in your browser, the stable ones, see if you get better performance...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

Ok so I did this and got through all the steps, everything happened as stated, after I started the mdm again (I had to use sudo service mdm stop/start) it took me to the login, When I look in my driver manager though, it doesn't show it installed, although everything in the tty1 stated it did witho...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

Unfortunately nvidia seems to be broken for some of us on the latest kde. I'm fairly experienced and I've spent literally days with nothing but failure. The one time I somehow did get it activated was without libdrmnouveau which meant I had no workspace/window manager and it stopped working entirel...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

Ok, I am getting A LOT of people complaining about how hard this is for a noob, or that it's not working on their older card, or the card in their laptop that also has an Intell GFX chip so they can change between them, and to be honest, it's getting a little tiring, this for all the people that hav...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

@latejunction To answer your question requires a couple thing for you to look at, for starters, if you look at the OP, it clearly states, this is for newer cards, yours is a legacy card, so this tutorial would not apply to your card. 2 what you most likely have to do to get the card to work, is go i...

Re: Who came up with this ugly MATE 1.6 or copy of GNOME 3.8

Check it out. Gnome 3.8 "Classic" or MATE 1.6. Looks like the same exact thing to my eyes. https://help.gnome.org/misc/release-notes/3.8/ "Classic Mode Classic mode is a new feature for those people who prefer a more traditional desktop experience. Built entirely from GNOME 3 technol...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

So I followed the steps laid out by McLovin plus the two additional commands provided by Enkidu. After the final reboot and Mint loading I was greeted with a desktop with no panel and no border around the windows with the maximize, minimize and close icons. As well as the ability to re-size them an...

Re: NVidia X Server Settings - Making Permanent

You have to run the nvidia-settings as root to get it to work properly, the easiest way to do it is to hit alt+f2, and enter gksu nvidia-settings this will allow to save the configuration properly. Thanks but as I said in my earlier post I already ran it as root. It was then that the error message ...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

@bobbie When grub loads, hit e to edit the entry, and find the part that says "quiet splash" and just delete those 2 words, that will give you a verbose boot up, and will show you any errors that are happening, try that, and post any errors that you find here so we can try to solve this is...

Re: ABC Guide for New users especialy Ex-Windows users

I use Windows all the time, I keep a Win7 install, just for gaming, cuz gaming in WINE doesn't work very well, or least not to the level that I, and most gamers would want. I I replied because you are giving incorrect information to people, for 1, wine1.5 is a DEVELOPMENT version, and should NOT be ...

Re: ABC Guide for New users especialy Ex-Windows users

You do realize you're trying to tell someone who is on the Mint dev team that they don't what they're talking about right? I've been using Linux for 13 years, and Mint for 6-7 years, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.

Re: ABC Guide for New users especialy Ex-Windows users

And what's worse, is about 80% of what you posted here is incorrect. WINE works just fine in 64bit, and the memory limitation is a limitation on 32bit itself, it has absolutely nothing to do with Windows. For most things people do, you do not need to run ANY Windows programs, as there are usually Li...

Re: Bluetooth Mouse Pairing Failure on Mint Cinnamon "Nadia"

If this issue is also present in Ubuntu/Kubuntu it sounds like it's an upstream issue, maybe the kernel, or something in the bluetooth/wireless devices area. For those that are experienced enough, I would say try a new kernel, for others, I'm not sure how to correct this, as I do not specifically ha...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

Hello, after the first reboot with the nouveau driver blacklisted I get the 2nd case: "be in a low graphics mode, in which case, you will need to hit ctrl+alt+f1 at the same time to get to tty1, and then login there" but when I hit ctrl+alt+f1 I just get a black screen. My monitor does no...

Re: How to install the Nvidia proprietary drivers in LinuxMi

mdm is what is used in Mint for Cinnamon, and MATE. I think Clem may be going for XDM for the XFCE build when he does it, and KDE obviously uses KDM. Great thread. Found out very useful stuff but a bit too late :( I already spent like a full day with these drivers. I would like to add some extra inf...
