Re: lmde up6 can't find UPS?

Sorry to not directly address the problem, but could you confirm that you mistyped UP6?

I thought UP5 was the most recent.

Re: --- "Keep or Install new" ---

Thanks for responding. Yes, I always clean out the APT cache and I've been aware of how to preserve the SSD since I first got it (etc/fstab): though I hadn't considered Also, making a symlink from ~/.thumbnails/ to /tmp, and changing Firefox's "browser.cache.disk.parent_directory" to /tmp/. Neat ide...

--- "Keep or Install new" ---

Has anyone else's system bloated by 200-300 megs since UP5? Is this due to selecting "Keep" when faced with the "Keep or Install new" option during upgrade, as were were instructed to do? If so then can anyone tell me if after UP6, for instance, it will be safe to go back and uninstall the older fil...

Worked perfectly: saves me having to compile. Thanks very much.

Re: External HDD does not properly eject.

I tried the simple

Code: Select all

sudo eject /dev/sdc
command and this did the trick, spinning the drive down then ejecting. Strangely no GUI "Eject" option did the same thing within Xfce.

Is there some file I can edit to amend this, rather than creating my own "Eject HDD.sh" file?

External HDD does not properly eject. [AMENDED]

Ever since switching out my Gnome UP3 LMDE installation for the XFCE UP4 edition, I have noticed that my external USB backup HDD does not correctly spin down after clicking "Eject" (either from the right-click menu or from within Thunar) and so even though the drive appears safe to remove, unpluggin...

Safe to delete?

I have just installed XFCE LMDE onto a netbook - with a tiny 4GB SSD. The installation just fit, with not even enough space to create and populate a home directory. I then stripped out a lot of things from this installation, which I know I won't be needing on this machine, to free up some space. Now...

Re: Resolution Will Not Hold

Help still needed, as I now cannot use WINE with anything without the screen messing up. It no longer returns to just VGA1 after toggling the screens whilst WINE is being used. Entering the correct xrandr mode in /etc/gdm3/Init/Default allows me to boot up without switching the laptop screen on: but...

Re: LMDE 201109 - Important INFO

Is it best not to install anything from synaptic ( I want to install Kino, Chromium and ms fonts) as well? Or is it just directly related to updates?
It's just the updates, installing software that uses Multimedia and Security deps that aren't in your update list is fine.

Re: Could we PLEASE get a true idea of release for UP3?

There is nothing wrong with installing from Multimedia and Security: the only problem is updating from them after you have installed the OS. Take a screenshot of Update Manager with its new Multimedia and Security updates. Keep the screenshot on your desktop. Any time you want to install new softwar...

Re: trackpad not working upon login

Have you tried this:
Type sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf and replace the content of the file with the following:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "touchpad catchall"
Driver "synaptics"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "1"
EndSection

Re: Open File with .... Multiple Entries

Hmm, it would be useful if there was some graphical representation within the list to let people know that each entry was subtly different. Maybe an icon alongside the entry that would display a tool-tip showing the launcher command?

Possibly naive question about re-spin updates [SOLVED]

I thought it belonged here rather than Software. Would I be right in thinking that Clem's recommendation not to install any updates from Security or Multimedia, would not be breached if I were to install software which required files from the Multimedia repo that are not on my update list. A couple...

Re: Resolution Will Not Hold

I was about to make a new thread, before I saw this one. I'd like to add my own description to the problem Andrew is experiencing: LMDE re-spin 32-bit This is a problem with the newer kernel, rather than the re-spin, since I encountered this a while ago with the newer kernel and so switched back to...

WINE gone?

I feel like I'm having a brain-fart over WINE. Since installing the re-spin I don't see WINE in the repos anymore, what happened to it?
