Re: Monthly News - February 2016
the solution is to not have the software so connected with the OS. so one can keep the OS at certain version (LTS, stable, whatever...), yet update the software. I believe Ubuntu is heading in that way (maybe Mint will as well?!). windows has always been like that.

Re: Linux Mint Forums Back After Double Attack
is there no way to have the email addresses also encrypted?
spam is how phishing spreads.
also they took my old Ubuntu forums password.... they got hacked as well not that long ago.
by the way any chance mint could use Ubutnu One SSO as well? would that make it safer?

Re: <DECIDED> LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testing.
I am still not using Mint :P (after bad install attempt 3 years ago) , but just wanted to drop by and say - finally! will look again at this option when version based on stable is out if it's not there already. I think this would be great for an old notebook. just need to replace the default DE with...

Re: dark despair (not solved)
maybe, or as suggested go one version down, use PPA if you need latest software and then wait until bug is fixed before upgrading.
if it's kernel bug you will find it in all linux distributions that use new kernel.

the issues might not be there if you test it in live session or install it rather than running it in a virtual maschine.

Re: alternative distro
Keep in all that in mind and that I am not a guru. which is exactly why messing with bootloader should be left to the OS installed (which in this case is a very good one). windows boot loader is not destroyed but grub is installed in front of it. can easilly be resoterd to previous setting if that ...

Re: Installing Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon actually installs LXDE
try to run it live. use unetbootin or similar to put it on USB disk or burn the image to a CD and then boot from it. it could be that your virtual mashcine doens't support hardware acceleration needed for cinamon. you can also make a screenshot so we know what you see rather than trying to describe ...

Re: Using Internet?
did you install it using mint4win? (i.e. did you use an exe file to make an install?) otherwise In my opinion that is not the correct way to install and operating system. the mint4win might work. not sure. if you want to keep windows you could install in virtualbox, use mint4win or create a side by ...

Re: SOLVED: Upgraded to Mint 13, now / partition is too smal
well what mintybits posted is logical and makes sense. doens't seem tood difficult for newbie to follow (unlike in windows here you can copy & paste commands into terminal). fstab is a configuration file. one of many in linux. The fstab file typically lists all available disks and disk partition...

Re: SOLVED: Upgraded to Mint 13, now / partition is too smal
ok how is that simpler than typing (copying) a command into terminal and then copying a line from the terminal output into fstab and then reboot? it's 3 step procedure. Install itself take about half hour (even more if conneciton is slow) and then the updates... what i am saying is - if you are goin...

Re: Help installing Linux Mint 13 (Cinammon)
what is dev/loop? some virtual device? Anyway you want a dual boot... in Windows create an empty partition (no filesystem) and then on install select to install on the empty disk space. That should create a nice dual boot. Hard to say what you are doing in your instalation. oh if you already have an...

Re: Upgraded to Mint 13, now / partition is too small
you would have to tell it where the real (old) /home is. i think this is explained in the post about creating separate home partition.

Re: Itel Atom CPU/motheboard and Linux
How is this related to Intel Atom? The HP server you mentioned isn't even Intel based. I think a moderator needs to split the topic. You cannot use those Nvidia 7025 boards with Fusion: they have socket AM3 (which are used by the Sempron/Athlon/Phenom series) while Fusions use socket FM1. You can h...

Re: dark despair (not solved)
i did some search and it seems thisa card does indeed have a problem with latest kernel in Ubuntu. you can use previous LTS instead or one version lower (in mint i think it's Mint 12). alternativelly you could try to run with no 3D which seems to work. ie.e try mate version or xfce. anyway a similar...

where i live i can't get anythign more into that price range. well appart of Atom based computer which owuld cost about the same. and is actually also not really upgradable. believe components here can be added via PCI if needed. Which AMD 3core option would fit the 300 EUR budget? chepaest one i co...

Re: Itel Atom CPU/motheboard and Linux
i was told and also after osme reasearch that it might be cheaper and better to simply use one of the HP micro servers. for example Neo N35L or N40L http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13716_na/13716_na.HTML According to specs: Graphics 128MB shared supporting 1920x1200 @ 60Hz now as i see...

And I agree with the other poster doing away with the login password a very bad Idea in linux or any OS for that matter. poor security risk! well the day does have 24 hours, so it's hardly a bug....
anyway perhaps you need to change a locale setting.
i remember once i installed USA english and time and dates looked a bit strange in all programmes. but after switching to GB english, all is "normal" now...
