Re: Linux Mint 12 use Gnome 3 but not Unity

Ewww... is this really Mint 12 in the video? Honestly, the grayish colortheme looks much uglier than the default dark (and clean!) Gnome 3 Shell. Also it looks much more cluttered... I also don't get how you have 2 times the application categories. One obviously just for the sake of maintaining the ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

The problem is, as I see it, that LMDE is broken/needs too much fiddling for many people to work as well as the Ubuntu-based Mint editions. I enjoy using Linux, and Mint especially. Using LMDE takes me back years when it used to take me less than 5 mins to find my first bug when trying a distro. I ...

Re: Release Date for Linux Mint 11 KDE

... which makes me wonder, why Mint is provided with so many different Desktop environments. I mean what is this: Ubuntu has people who deliver Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu etc., each one only caring about their specific Desktop Environment (at least, that's what I think), but in Mint every single one ...

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

Cool, I welcome the decision to switch over to G3, because I don't like Unity that much. Btw. I have waited very long for the "breakthrough" of Linux, and with the release of LM12 the day will arrive... :)

Re: My case for Gnome 3 shell in LMDE and Mint 12

I just want a nice normal desktop. I want a powerful and functional desktop, not some simplistic interface designed for kids and the mentally impaired I actually agree with that, no matter if Mint changes to another Desktop Environment. I will use the one distribution which offers either the Gnome ...

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

There may be an RC release - and that will not be until after Ubuntu 11.10 is released. Which basically means it's still based on Ubuntu, otherwise there wouldn't be any reason to wait, isn't it? Don't know what solution would be best, the Gnome DE is still the best... and I have nothing against Gn...

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

Oh, thanks for being able to revote. I have just installed Debian and it sucked, therefore I voted back for Ubuntu. I was not able to activate my UMTS modem, which is a complete No-Go, since it's my only connection to the internet. I will go back to Mint LXDE Edition, which is based on Ubuntu, isn't...

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

So, what is it now, has it been decided yet which way to go? I am very impatient and will install Debian Edition soon... probably that's the most futureproof track. Besides, can I upgrade to Gnome3 (+Shell) from the Debian Edition? I have tried again to switch over to Ubuntu and checked the 11.10 Be...

And...? What is the future now, has Mint Team decided yet?

Is it:
- Debian +Gnome3
- Ubuntu +Gnome3
- Ubuntu +Unity

Re: You can't deny that Mint 11 looks horribly dated now

It's not only that it looks dated, it *is* outdated and won't allow a clean update anymore, because it's still G2. So it's not futurproof. @Guru: I'm sorry, but the screenshots you posted look dated and the theme is really ugly (worse than windows 7). The Gnome3 shell looks (and is) much more sophis...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" released!

Which version do I need to install? The "OEM" or the "32-no codecs"? And why is it called no-codecs? Does that mean No mp3,wma support anymore? Edit: ah I have read the description now... I need to download the no-codecs-cd. Wow... and now the codecs arent included anymore like in previous versions?...

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

It is a selection of Distros, not necessarily the TOP TEN. Sorry, I didn't express myself correctly.

And please put off your pink glasses, you can dismiss all of the ones you listed, except one of them. Good luck in guessing.

Re: Would Linux be more popular with LESS choice?

And, how many is too many? 100? 50? 25? 7? I'd say you can easily dismiss most Linux distros, except about 8 which are mostly listed in the top ten of distrowatch. I don't say that solely by looking at the listing, but also because I tried lots and lots of them and many fail on even simple tasks an...

Re: Linux Mint 11 "Katya" RC released!

Thanks for answer, but now I'm still confused: does that mean, that Linux Mint 11 and later versions with the wma/flash/etc. will only ship as a DVD, instead of a simple CD? Why that? In Mint 10 everything fit on the CD (including codecs :s)

Re: Linux Mint 11 release Date

Keep in mind that once you have the new Mint 11 installed, nothing will prevent you from installing Gnome 3 if you are so inclined. I believe there's a PPA for it. That's the beauty of Linux. You can make your own personalized distro. As for me, my tastes match those of Clem fairly closely, and Min...

Re: Linux Mint 11 release Date

Look on the bright side, Clem built what the community really wanted. Which is what exactly? Mint 10 second edition? We've had that half a year ago. I understand the point that maybe Gnome3 isn't ripe enough yet, but it will soon be. I guess the ETA is in june or july - (since Fedora/openSuse Gnome...

Re: Linux Mint 11 release Date

This post will not make me friends, but here are my thoughts to the Mint 11 Release: 1) First of all I don't like how it was announced months ago that Gnome 3 (at least the basic version) will be used and now out of a sudden: we will stick to Gnome 2. Why announce something if the team has not looke...

Re: Problem with Exaile

One reason I can think of is, if you have your music collection on a partition which isn't mounted on default or Exaile is started before the mount. Only guessing though. I agree btw. that the way how things work in Exaile is better than in Banshee or Rhythmbox. Unfortunately I also get the feeling ...
