Re: No Connection to Bluetooth Speakers

Hello Tom, Run this command: sudo dpkg-query -s blueman and check the results against those from my machine: Package: blueman Status: install ok installed Priority: optional Section: x11 Installed-Size: 2527 Maintainer: Christopher Schramm <debian@shakaweb.org> Architecture: amd64 Version: 1.23-git2...

Re: No Connection to Bluetooth Speakers

Hello Everyone, I ran into this issue myself after loading my notebook with Mint Xfce 17.1 (Rebecca). After much digging, including through sources listed in this thread, I stumbled upon an interesting tidbit... It seems that Blueman -- as originally written -- intentionally unloaded module-bluetoot...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - September 2012

Howdy, I just can't seem to shake my addiction to having both the top-and-bottom Panel arrangement of Classic GNOME (GNOME 2.3x) and a Mac OS/Unity style Global AppMenu. Unfortunately, this combination removes Cinnamon, Gnome Shell, Mate, Unity, and Xfce from my personal "desktop options" list (for ...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - March 2012

Howdy, I'm a die-hard Mint 9 Isadora fan, and I recently had to completely rebuild my system because the hard drives finally succumbed to sector cancer. I'm glad Isadora's based on an LTS release; I'm going to stick with it for another 6 months or so, and wait for Cinnamon to become more feature-com...

Ultimate Edition Drops Ubuntu for Linux Mint as Build Base

Hello Folks, DistroWatch and Google Trends statistics aside, here's a bit more evidence that not everyone is happy with the actions Canonical has taken of late with regard to its flagship distribution: The Ultimate Edition team has just released version 3.0, and instead of basing their latest rendit...

Re: Wishlists: Features for a Non-Unity/Non-Gnome-Shell Desk

Hello Again, Clem and the Mint team have recognized that the Gnome and KDE traditional desktops were too disorganized and needed some tweaking. It has been a step in the right direction, and the reward has been to command second place to Ubuntu, over such stalwarts as Fedora and OpenSuse. Nice work....

Wishlists: Features for a Non-Unity/Non-Gnome-Shell Desktop

Hello Everyone, Clem has mentioned that even though Ubuntu has moved to Unity, and other GNOME-based distros have moved (or are moving) to Gnome Shell, he envisions that Linux Mint will move to GNOME 3.0 (the underlying framework), but retain the "classic GNOME" desktop: WebUpd8: Linux Mint 11 Will ...

Re: Rolling distribution like Debian VS. 6 month release lik

Howdy, Look's like Ubuntu's headed toward the "rolling-release" paradigm in the near future, as well: The Register UK: Jumpin' Meerkats! Ubuntu moving to daily downloads? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/11/23/darily_ubuntu_updates/ Personally, I'm not a fan of rolling-releases. There's too much ch...

About LaunchPad.net PPAs (Personal Package Archives)

Howdy... Just thought I'd chime-in with my US $0.02: PPAs (LaunchPad.net Personal Package Archives ) Can be Your Friend: You've read about an enhancement (or fix for an especially annoying bug) for an application, and you just have to get it. So what do you do? Well, if you're particularly adventuro...

Re: GNOME 3 and Linux Mint

Howdy... I did a bit of an (admittedly biased) analysis of Gnome Shell and posted it here: Let's Keep Mint Julia? on GNOME 2.x http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=38536&start=0 Based on what Lucas Rocha is saying on his blog, the GNOME organisation has had enough of people (distro packa...

Re: Splash screen resolution

Howdy... Well, it can be fixed, it's just that the major distro packagers don't want to fall into a trap brought about by breaking something to support proprietary video drivers. Writing Plymouth to work with the subset of features common to all of the different manufacturers' proprietary drivers wo...

Re: Future of Mint Menu? (and other such apps)

Howdy... Certainly no need to worry. But it's still worth thinking ahead! The implications of the Shell switch are pretty major, and to me it's an intriguing question as to what's going to happen to projects like Mint Menu and the distributions that are built around them! I agree to an extent, and d...

Re: Let's Keep Mint Julia? on GNOME 2.x

Howdy... I just took another look at the GNOME Shell page at the GNOME Live! site: GnomeShell: http://live.gnome.org/GnomeShell and my eyes happened to land on this paragraph: Having this JHBuild setup will not affect your main system, so there is no need to run the GNOME Shell inside a virtual mach...

Re: Useful Terminal Commands Everyone Should Know

Howdy... Favorite commands? Have to be 'grep' and 'less': Examples: 1. Display a list of all processes containing 'firefox' in the command line, but don't return the 'grep' process itself: ps ax | grep -e 'firefox' | grep -v 'grep' 2. Get ACPI-related events recorded in dmesg (case-insensitive), and...

Re: Did The Elegance Die?

Howdy... Ther are two apps in the repos, Splash Screen and Starup Manager. Won't these do the same thing? Unfortunately, no... They were written to interface with usplash and GRUB version 1. The tools for the latest boot sequence frameworks haven't arrived yet, but are under development. We'll proba...

Re: Unofficial Post Your Linux Mint Desktop Thread

Howdy... :-) I'm running Linux Mint Helena. My modifications include a custom panel arrangement and installation of Gloria's wallpaper. For Mozilla Firefox, I installed the "Hide Menubar" extension so it integrates better with a desktop running Gnome2-Globalmenu. Here's how my laptop is arranged at ...

Re: That's it... I'm going back to Gloria.

Howdy... I find it strange that so many people are having issues with Helena, when I haven't had a single show-stopping problem with it. My only real complaints are the fact that tools to effectively theme and customise GDM2 haven't arrived (although they are under development), and that the drivers...
