Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
Update to my previous posts on this thread: Today I installed LM20 as a fresh install (dual boot) on to a laptop (previously there was a desktop computer which I upgraded from LM19 to 20). I connected the computer to the printer via USB prior to setup - and bingo (!) the printer was automatically r...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
I was using my HP DeskJet 2600 series printer yesterday. My OS was Linuxmint Cinnamon 19.3 Then I upgraded to Linux Mint 20 Ulyana. It killed the printer, and nothing I've been able to do has worked. Ideas? Suggestions? I was using my HP DeskJet 2600 series printer yesterday. My OS was Linuxmint Ci...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
It seems I've found the problem. In the Home directory there's a folder called ".hplip". Inside that folder is a file called "hplip.conf". Out of curiosity I opened the file and found this (my HP 3700 series was on and setup via the "Printers" app using hplip--still not...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
@brian_p: I am very interested in why USB is the preferred method for you and others. I ask as someone who always uses wifi or ethernet. In my experience, connecting a printer via USB has always been the preferred method since home printers went USB, both Windows and Linux distros. A great improveme...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
@carum carvi: Nope, never had a network. Stand alone desktop computer, printer connected via USB. @brian_p: Ran the command you gave with the printer on and this is the return: 0 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too. To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl li...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
A bit of an addendum here. A network printer was added when I ran 'hp-setup' in the terminal I believe**. Unfortunately, Mint 20 wouldn't print to the network printer either. **I've run so many tests, tried so many tricks I know (plus all the research) over the past 3 days including installing the H...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
Yup, it didn't add a network printer. When I ran Help/Troubleshooting on my USB connected HP printer (debugging enabled), the output was as follows: I [07/Jul/2020:13:55:51] io/hpmud/musb.c 427: Found interface conf=0, iface=1, altset=0, index=1 I [07/Jul/2020:13:55:51] io/hpmud/musb.c 389: Active k...

Re: HP printer worked as charm in LM18/19, but cant connect via usb in LM20
I'm having the exact same problem with a newer HP Deskjet 3752 (3700 series). Mint 20/Cinnamon recognizes the printer which is connected via USB but refuses to print to it. Even if I try to print a test page a notification eventually comes up starting the printer may not be connected. Like the OP sa...

Re: Do Lenovo ThinkPads run well with Linux Mint?
I have an old ThinkPad R61 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB DDR2 ram) that runs Mint/Cinnamon 18.3 just fine. Install and go installation, no fiddling needed. I did eventually replace the HDD with an SSD. Well worth it. I have a newer (circa 2012) ThinkPad T430 (Intel Core i5 Dual core with hyper-threading, ...

Re: Do Lenovo ThinkPads run well with Linux Mint?
Right. What I meant was that the new features in 18.3 started being announced on the Linux Mint blog in September of this year. Perhaps that's where he got the idea from?catweazel wrote:That's now. Then was Sun Oct 15, over a month ago. 18.3 did not exist.

Re: Do Lenovo ThinkPads run well with Linux Mint?
LM 18.3 should use slightly less resources for the GUI compared to LM 18.2. There is no such thing as Linux Mint 18.3. Well, Petermint did say should be . Aside from that, the beta has been released and Clem has been posting about the upcoming 18.3 features and changes on the LM blog since the mont...

Re: Installing Mint18 dual boot Lenovo T430S
I just bought a refurbished T430S (same specs as yours) with an install of Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). After replacing the 320 GB HDD (bad) with an 120 GB SSD (only planning on running Mint 18.2--no dual boot) I installed Mint 18.2. Cinnamon ended up crashing constantly and Firefox and Thunderbird woul...

Re: How Many 17.3 Cinnamon 32 bit Users out there?
I have an old ThinkPad R61 with an Intel Core2 Duo CPU and just 2 GB DDR2 that's running 17.3 32-bit (Cinnamon). I found that the 64-bit version using up half the memory with only Thunderbird and Firefox open was a bit much so I wiped it and opted for the 32-bit version. Much better on resource usag...

Re: NTP slowing startup by 3.5 minutes.
No just wondered if you had modified it to a non-default time server or something. Nope, no modifications at all. And I found other threads under this forum category from other users about the same problem. I've re-enabled NTP via the Mint Settings tool (Date and Time applet) and I won't attempt to...

Re: NTP slowing startup by 3.5 minutes.
True, it may not be required, but something's definitely wrong there with 3m 45s to sync. Do you have default /etc/ntp.conf ? It's there alright. Nothing seems amiss but I'm no real expert on what it should look like except that the standard Ubuntu time server entries are there (4 of them) plus the...

Re: NTP slowing startup by 3.5 minutes.
Hello, Is NTP required at all on desktops? Just asking . Is there anything which requires such accurate timings? In server environment it may be very much required. There may be a database on one server and apache on another, in which case NTP will be very much required. Then tbere will be mission ...

NTP slowing startup by 3.5 minutes.
I need to be clear on this so bear with me. The normal boot time (from GRUB to Login to Cinnamon desktop) is fairly quick, less than 2 minutes, with Linux Mint 18/Cinnamon 64-bit, off a 7200 RPM HDD. However, if I attempt to run: systemd-analyze ...shortly after the desktop appears the terminal retu...

Re: Desktop background reverts to default every boot/reboot [solved]
@Cosmo - Should this UM/elevated privileges problem be moved to it's own thread and be re-titled? Right now it's about the desktop background reverting to default and marked [solved]. A bit confusing, yes?

Re: Desktop background reverts to default every boot/reboot [solved]
If you want to test another edition, you do not need another hardware. Install VirtualBox and install the other edition as a virtual machine. i don't expect a different result there. The UM, all x-apps and the system for getting elevated permissions (my current suspicion as the cause of the problem...
