Re: Livedvd asking for login name and password?

I've experienced the same issue. Tried a CD on 5 computers and only two didn't ask for a login I just tried the Live DVD and it asked for a login on the first PC but didn't on the 2nd - Weird. Anyway, I ran an MD5 check and had the DVD check it's integrity - both OK. I used "mint" for user...

Re: Memory usage

You guys answered my question - not using the swap file is ok, and having all my free RAM allocated to cache is ok too. My computer freezes whenever I do something bandwidth intensive, like watching a movie on Hulu. So far I've changed memory sticks, CPU, hard drive, video board, sound board and CD ...

Memory usage

I'm running Mint 8 on an Abit VT7 MOBO with Celeron 2.5 Ghz & 1GB RAM. I'm having mysterious freeze problems and have tried a bunch of solutions without success. I installed System Monitor 2.26.1, which runs in the upper panel and shows a running display of CPU & RAM usage. Right now I have ...

Re: Installing to USB Flash

I've created two Mint 9 pendrives now, one 3GB and one 6GB. I created them using these instructions: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/create-a-linux-mint-8-usb-flash-drive-from-cd/#more-3812 Both work really well, boot quickly, and seem to run without problems. The only issue I have is they don't appear...

Re: Need help with Computertemp install

Thanks guys - I had no ideas what Gnome applet was or how to use it, so you've opened up a whole new area for me.

Take care,

Re: Mint 7 freeze during streaming

Nope - spoke too soon. It still does the same thing. I was listening to a streaming NPR program and playing a game on Pogo and it froze this morning. I rebooted and checked temperatures through the bios and both CPU and system were nice and cool. Still trying to get my Computertemp app running so I ...

Need help with Computertemp install

Hi, I've attempted to install an app called computertemp a few times now and can't seem to get it running. I've used Mint install, synaptic, and even downloaded the deb file and used the deb installer. In each case the program seems to successfully install, but I can't find a way to run the program ...

Re: Mint 7 freeze during streaming

Ok - great info/suggestions - Thanks! Here's the next update: The MOBO is an ABit VT7 with a 2.66 P4 - socket 478. The cooler is a fairly massive CoolerMaster, but must be older because I couldn't find a picture of it on their site. No model name or number anywhere on it, just the brand name. It def...

Re: Mint 7 freeze during streaming

Thanks to everyone for the helpful info. I actually left a thin layer of paste when scraping off the original thick gunky layer, and it seemed to be running slightly cooler. But...I did go out and get a tube of paste and start from scratch with clean surfaces and added nice consistent thin layer of ...

Dell E6400 Wireless

I have a pretty locked up work laptop that I've started using with a Mint 7 persistent USB install. It works great except that it doesn't see my wireless. It has the Broadcom driver loaded and says it's working, but none of the wireless routers normally in my area (including mine) show up. I install...

Mint 7 freeze during streaming

I bought a used P4 2.6Ghz computer with an ABit Mobo. It has 1.2GB Ram installed and a graphics card (NVidia) that has, I believe 512MB of onboard RAM (not sure without opening it). I was using the on-board sound, but installed a Creative 7.1 card I had on hand in the course of chasing this problem....
