Re: LOGS from RKHUNTER, can you tell me what do you think about?

I looked at the log file. I'm not going to examine all of that either. Did you do any configuration after installation? There are several steps that need to be taken before you can run a successful, meaningful scan. Start with the following and see if your results change. sudo rkhunter --propupd sud...

Re: Does anybody still use DVDs?

I haven't used a DVD for several years now. At least not as they relate to burning ISO's etc. Nothing computer related. I use thumb drives any time I can, which is almost always.

Re: Why are sda5, sda6 and sda7 "inside" sda4

sda4 is an extended partition. sda5,6 and 7 are logical partitions.
An extended partition is a primary partition that has been divided up into logical partitions as a means of creating more partitions than the four that would otherwise be possible.

Re: Gnome-Boxes vs. Virtualbox - opinions/comments?

Another vote for VirtualBox. I've been using it for years on several Ubuntu type distros as well as Fedora. I'm very comfortable with it so for me there is no reason to try anything else. I did play with Boxes for a while but I can't seem to change the storage location. With VirtualBox all of my VM'...

Bash scripts for me. Several scripts backup small portions of my system on a daily basis. One script purges "old" backups.

Re: Who have you referred to Linux Mint?

3 or 4 years ago I took an old computer from work, installed Mint on it and gave it to my son's sister-in-law. I installed the OS and made sure that everything was working, all hardware, internet access, proper display, etc. Then I gave the computer to my son to pass on to her. Not once has this tee...

That seems reasonable to me. At the moment I'm running Fedora 25. Avidemux 2.6.15 has this setting under Edit > Preferences > Check for new release.

Several seperate installations is a very different thing from one installation with several desktop environments, which seems to be what the OP was asking about.
Ah yes. Misread. My bad.

Re: Is it advisable to install multiple desktop environments?

I've been booting multiple installs of Linux along with Windows XP and Windows 7 for years. Sometimes as many as 15 OS's across 2 hard disks. Ive never any issues with any of the operating systems that were caused by multi-booting.

Re: Wireless has stopped working RTL8191SEvB

So I had pretty much the same wireless adapter in my Toshiba laptop and had the same issues regardless of whether I was running Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Windows 10. Wireless would just slow down and then quit and / or not work at all. There are several suggestions on how to deal with this, one or two o...

Re: rtl8723be - hp notebook ac122tu wifi issues

Regarding the rtl8723be. I had that same wireless adapter in my Toshiba laptop. I got so tired of the thing dropping the wireless signal and so tired of attempting to "fix" it I finally came upon the ultimate solution. But an Intel adapter on Amazon for $20 USD, replace existing adapter with Intel a...

Mint! Stop installing grub!

Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca. Stop installing grub and probing my disk when I update my system! Seriously, although the answer is probably as obvious as the nose on my face, lets make this stop. I have a multi-boot system with several partitions on the main disk. Usually my Fedora GRUB handles booting of...

Re: VirtualBox guest can't get IP address

Thank you for that information Cosmo. An once again, thanks for the help. Adding the second adapter has worked for 2 VM's so far. In the future I'll use NAT when installing new virtual machines.
