Re: Mint 13 and Nouveau drivers

The nouveau driver is installed by default. This is the driver your system is using after installation. Hmmm... Ok then maybe that's the problem, I don't know. I removed all the nvidia drivers from the Additional Drivers tool then when X restarted, it was all garbled. I didn't know what was wrong s...

Mint 13 and Nouveau drivers

Hi, I have been running Mint 13 with nVidia drivers for a while, but the CPU is always running high and performance is sluggish (using cinnamon). I read somewhere on the forum that using the nouveau drivers might help. however, when I search for how to set it up, I keep getting results for blacklist...

Chromium-browser 28 hangs on Linux Mint 13

Hello, For a couple of weeks now, Chromium has been hanging for no apparent reason. I will open the browser, do some stuff then switch to other windows to do other work. Then, whhen I return to Chromium, it hangs. This is a fairly recent phenomenon and I was wondering if my version (28) is to blame,...

Re: Desktop reverted to GNOME2 defaults: How to reset to Cin

I am using the current nVidia drivers (295.40), as I was using before. I never had a problem with them before. Originally, the default (nouveau?) driver was in use. However, i tried to use an application and got a GL error. When I read up on it, the solution was to use the nVidia driver instead of t...

Desktop reverted to GNOME2 defaults: How to reset to Cinammo

Hello, A couple of weeks ago, I did an upgrade from Lisa to Maya (11 to 13). Everything seemed OK except for a problem with dovecot (messages never get deleted; this is still not fixed) and the nVidia driver. I upgraded the nVidia driver to use the one provided by nVidia, and after I did so, my desk...

Re: Virtualbox: boot 64-bit OS

Yes, I am on a 64bit host. That's why I don't understand why it won't let me boot a 64-bit ISO. I tried configuring a machine as Linux/Other and as ubuntu/64-bit but when I load the ISO I get:

This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU but only detected an i686 CPU.

Virtualbox: boot 64-bit OS

Hi,

I'd like to boot the 64-bit version of Lisa in virtualbox, before I try to reinstall and reconfigure my machine. However, it says it can't boot the .iso because it is an amd64 iso and virtualbox is a i686 version. How can I install/configure virtualbox to boot an amd64 ISO?

Thanks,

Replacing onboard graphics with external card

Hi, I needed more memory on my graphics card, so I bought a old nVidia-based card: Bus Type PCI Graphics Engine NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Core Clock 567 MHz RAMDAC 400 MHz I turned off the onboard chip. I managed to get the card to boot with Windows, and installed the nVidia drivers there. The card wor...

DVD disappears after playing then going to sleep

Hi, This is the second time this happens to me. I play a DVD fine using VLC, then after I'm done, I close the lid with the DVD in it. WHen I open the lid, the drive spins for a long time and eventually stops. I try to eject the DVD and it doesn't. When I reboot the machine (an HP dv2000-type laptop)...

Re: Can't get Linksys AE1000 to work on laptop

D'oh! That's probably it. I don't have access to the machine currently, so I'll check tonight. I know in the instructions I followed there was something about blacklisting other RT drivers, but it never occured to me to blacklist my original driver.

I'll check and let you know.

Can't get Linksys AE1000 to work on laptop

Hi, I'm trying to get the linksys AE1000 wireless adapter to work, because the wireless switch on my laptop isn't working anymore (even on Windows). It's a Broadcom something or other. So I bought an AE1000 and I tried the instructions found here, and on the ubuntu forums and on the Fedora forums. M...

BTW, the application is still active. If I do Alt-F, for example, the File menu is displayed.

Katya displays blank windows

I'm not sure where else to put this. I installed Katya yesterday with the latest updates. I'm using an nVidia card and periodically, when I open a window or display a menu, the content is blank. For example, I will launch Synaptic and a blank window appears, with no borders. Sometimes, I can minimiz...

Re: KATYA RC: GNOME hangs

OK, I tried removing some of the effects. It causes some issues, so I tried Metacity instead, but... How do I set metacity as the default window manager? Right now I'm doing it manually from the command line. What's the correct way?

I don't think Compiz is running, but I'll check tonight. I know I saw a metacity process running but no compiz.

Re: KATYA RC: GNOME hangs

It just happened again. The Xorg process is using 99% of the CPU. It happened while dragging and dropping between gthumb and Nautilus. I also had something like that happen when booting the install disk. When I was clicking around on various devices to determine where I was going to install Mint, It...
