Re: Does encrypting the home folder keep existing contents?
@Cosmo: Further more: Also any installation is a case, where a complete backup of your home is mandatory. As a consequence you can simply proceed, in case you have your backup. I do have a backup. I would never proceed without. @rene: Note that home-directory encryption, ecryptfs, is also not recomm...

Does encrypting the home folder keep existing contents?
I am about to install Linux Mint 20.3 on my laptop that previously hosted Manjaro. I have a separate home partition and want to keep that partition for Mint, thus using it without formatting. Now, if I select encrypt home folder, will that wipe my existing home folder or is it smart enough to keep a...

Re: [SOLVED] Stuck in "Welcome to Emergency mode"
For me it was an invalid bind mount in fstab. Because of ecryptfs the bind wasn't available at the time of boot. It would only become available after ecryptfs had mounted its virtual file system. Strange though that the OS wouldn't boot up normally since the bind was not important to the OS at all. ...

Re: Cinnamon crashes into fallback mode [Solved]
Then I would try to rename ~/.cinnamon to ~/.cinnamon.old and restart Cinnamon.
You can always rename it back again if it doesn't help.

Re: Cinnamon crashes into fallback mode [Solved]
You should click on an empty space at the bottom toolbar.
If you don't have that toolbar, try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Esc which should restart Cinnamon.

Some times the right answer is ridiculously simple.
So far I have not had a single crash of Cinnamon.

Cinnamon crashes into fallback mode [Solved]
I recently upgraded from Mint 17.3 to 18.3. Everything has worked out fine except that Cinnamon now very often crashes to fallback mode, especially when I close windows. It is most likely not a driver problem since another user account I created afterwards never crashes. So probably Cinnamon's setti...

Intel graphics card HD 4600 not supported in Mint 17
I have just installed Mint 17 on my new PC with a Intel HD 4600 graphics. Unfortunately it does not recognize my monitor, a Samsung S27A850T 27" monitor cabable of running 2560x1440. The Display utility reports a 24" monitor with a maximum resolution of 1920x1200 which does not look nice! ...

Re: How to install KDE on LMDE?
I would like to install KDE as well.
However, I have one question: Is it still LMDE after installing KDE? I mean, will it still be the same semi-rolling release and will get all relevant updates in the future?

Re: Delay on Mouse and Keyboard becoming active after boot
I have the same problem, except it only applies to the keyboard: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 96#p599496
I don't think it is hardware related since my keyboard works fine in the other OS'es on my computer.

Keyboard not working in Mint 13 Mate
Hi, I just installed Mint 13 Mate 64 bit from the live DVD alongside LMDE and my old Mint 7. The installation went fine, but after installation the keyboard does not work beyond the grub menu. With the keyboard completely dead I cannot log in since I can't enter my username. The keyboard works fine ...

Re: Updates Broken

Re: Updates Broken
I am stuck with the Eclipse issue too. I use it for Android programming so update pack 3 is no-go. If I update via aptitude instead of mintUpdate, I have the choice to examine several suggestions for resolving the dependency issues. Most of them involves removing Eclipse, but suggestion 21 offers: -...
