Re: How to change an executable application to "game"

Doesn't the above assume that the game the OP installed is XDG Base compliant? There may well not be anything to create a .desktop file from. I may be wrong of course. Me? I'd just install dmenu or rofi, bind it to Super+M or some such and use it instead. Leave them finicky menus behind. :D Ahem...w...

Re: How to change an executable application to "game"

I want Tales of Maj'Eyal to be in my GUI menu under games. How do I make it so? It is installed already. Which window manager are you using? MATE, Cinnamon? They all have their own way of menuing. Most likely, you'll need to manually edit the menu file (or use a menu editor app) to add your game. S...

Graphics tablet pen buttons

I have a Huion 680S graphics tablet which works well out of the box in Linux Mint 18.3. Pressure sensitivity works too. There's just one minor hassle - that's configuring the two buttons on the pen. I suspect that I'm out of luck without manufacturer drivers (they aren't any for Linux) but I'd like ...

Re: Terminal spits out gobblegook!

Isn't .odt a container format? I.e it's a zipped file containing the text and a few xml files on how to mark that text up? If so, no wonder the OP is getting gobbledegook looking at it.

Re: Radeon R290 X + Mint 18.3 x64 - no work

I disagree. Under unsupported chips. that page states that the AMDGPU driver should be one automatically installed for the 290x (it's a clock-sped version of the 280 - same card but with an overclocked chip) in anything Ubuntu 16.04 and above. The 290x is a newer card than the R9 285, hence what I'v...

Sorry, I fail to see how Xbox 360 related to Linux Mint. :?
The OP is talking about the controller and its receiver, not the platform itself.

Edit: I wouldn't mind knowing about issues with Xbox controllers as I intend to use one with my own Linux box at some time.

Re: Javaws issue - tells me it's not installed

Thank you Karl, it works like a charm now.

Code: Select all

peter@boxybox ~ $ update-alternatives --list javaws
/opt/java/64/jre1.8.0_161/bin/javaws
And typing javaws at the command line now gives me the program's options, not a message to install it. So this one is solved I think. Thank you again.

Re: Javaws issue - tells me it's not installed

Hi Karl, and thanks for your help. I followed an online guide to removing Iced Tea and installing Oracle, so Iced Tea shouldn't be present at all. peter@boxybox ~ $ ls -l /usr/bin/java /usr/bin/javaws ls: cannot access '/usr/bin/javaws': No such file or directory lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 Mar 5 17:4...

[SOLVED] Javaws issue - tells me it's not installed

I've had to install Oracle's Java for the benefit of university as Iced Tea won't play nice with Blackboard Collaborate. The installation went well and I updated the java using update-alternatives. I've completely removed Iced Tea as to not cause conflicts. So if I do java -version I get: java versi...

Tidy - please upgrade the version in the repo

Title says most of it, but the version of tidy (an HTML lint/cleaner) in the repos dates from 2009. Alas, it has no knowledge of HTML 5.x and calls valid things errors. We're up to 5.6.0 now. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place - didn't really see anywhere more appropriate on the forums.

No sound at duolingo.com using Vivaldi

OK, I'll preface this by saying I don't think this is Linux Mint's problem, but one Vivaldi moderator thinks it may be a distro issue. Not seeing how, but anyway. I'm glad I changed mine as I hadn't altered since I signed up here originally and it was something simple and silly.

To the mods, maybe add a global announcement with a link to the profile page. It's not immediately noticeable in the forum header (and it's not clickable).

If you haven't already, you may wish to install Dropbox on both machines and simply let it sync your documents.

Wow, apt-get clean removed about 1.25 Gb from /var. Does it store the files you download there or is the log itself just particularly verbose?

Re: Passwords: Isn't ONCE enough?

Sigh.... I utterly fail to see what this has got to do with copyleft zealotism, because that's about extreme "free and open source" versus "proprietary and closed source". Not at all about the security that the password requirement provides. Go back through this thread and look at the responses the...
