Re: web cam
To followup on my web cam issue after a reboot from first install and update i got the web cam detected by cheese. Ditto in skype but for some reason it shows in "tile" mode e.g. it shows double view of the person im chatting with. I can live with that as long as the cam works. Now i move ...

Re: web cam
Attaching snapshot of cam & wifi buttons if this will help. As mentioned earlier these buttons dont activate no matter how pressed. Maybe someone has idea on this thanks.
P.S. the cam and wifi buttons are the first and second from the left.

I'm trying to no avail pressing the button where a webcam icon in the laptop hoping it will activate. Has anyone have experience with this laptop in Linux? This one plus the...

Re: dual boot woes (SOLVED)
oobetimer you're the MAN thank you for the helpful tip. Now i can boot to both OS with no problem. After some fiddling there I am back again in LM9. Bad habits are hard to break LOL  If you use grub2 in Mint, so it sees PClinuxOS's initrd.img partition wrong. You have to edit Mint's /boot/grub/...

Re: dual boot woes
Hi oobetimer! Great tip I'll have a look in the grub.cfg file. But i read somewhere this file is not meant to be edited even by root. What now :D If you use grub2 in Mint, so it sees PClinuxOS's initrd.img partition wrong. You have to edit Mint's /boot/grub/grub.cfg manually (you have to do this aft...

Re: dual boot woes
sudo update-grub didnt work in my early attempt. I mean it restored grub but selecting the other OS yielded kernel panic. Will have a look at the boot info script later on as I'm away from my linux box right now. Thanks for the link. I suspect though that this issue *might* be related to the fact th...

Re: dual boot woes
Hi dawgdoc. Sorry I'm confused as all my partitions are ext3 not ext4. Of course unless i miss something :D . However I still will look over the link you provided. I have attached screenshot of my partitions made by gparted. I think I may be able to direct you to a fix. PCLinuxOS uses Grub legacy (0...

Re: Mint Debian
I installed LMDE as guest in my LM9 virtualbox. Except in the partitioning section where mounting/assigning root/home/etc is not so obvious all went well. I'm just quite surprise getting a lot of updates when update manager is run. For a newly released distro system i thought you get the newest and ...

Hey 8andsand thanks a lot for the replies. It's definitely helpful.
As for the themes I'll find something. Surely there is one or two geared towards netbook.

Re: NBR?
I have a Toshiba netbook and is interested in this setup. What Linux Mint flavor should be used for this, Gnome or Fluxbox? Considering the hardware involved, it would be great to use the latter. Though a 1 GB memory should be enough for Gnome to handle.

Re: Laptop to laptop ICS
Thanks Husse. But i think the Shared to other computers option is ONLY applicable to wired connection. My LM8 internet connection is through 3G usb modem. I cant find such sharing option in the mobile setting.
I attached some snapshots fwiw. Any further tips appreciated.

Hi all, I have LM8 laptop and network manager is flawless in handling 3G connection. Now I’m planning to get a laptop/netbook soon. I would like to connect to LM8 via network cable. What other setup do I have to do aside from turning on ICS in firestarter’s configuration? How about pc naming schemes...
