Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

Now I run a dualboot of Windows 7 and Mint 10. I like the Mint a lot, but my main problem with it is that there are still to few mainstream professional software available for it. I use Linux for general leisure browsing, music, films etc; and Windows for programming and gaming. My point is that ev...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

I am now. They work great, as long as the software is provided in that format. More often than not, it is, but it's often enough not the case. I guess the next question would be: What are you trying to install as a .exe? Of course I'm not trying to install anything from .exe's. I said setup program...

Re: Why do new people give up on Linux?

Various issues getting hardware to work over the years has been my biggest hurdle to fully adopting Linux (well, aside from the fact that my job involves Windows development exclusively). One thing that goes a long way toward keeping Windows on top for a lot of people? Setup.exe for just about anyt...

Re: GNOME VS KDE!!!

The KDE 4 haters tend to make it a sort of holy war. It's really all about preference. Luckily, we have a choice between 3.5 and 4.0. As for me (in case it wasn't apparent), I've chosen KDE at this point, as Qt seems (at least from my very limited experience) to support cross-platform development be...

It just might stick this time

Several times in the past I've tried giving Linux a shot, but always seemed to get stumped/discouraged by something that turned into a show-stopper or close to it. Now, with Mint 9 KDE, I find myself booting into Linux more and more. Most of my hardware worked right out of the box (Lenovo T500 noteb...

Re: Strange middle mouse button behavior

Thanks. That did the trick. Could I trouble you for the secret to changing that behavior throughout Mint? I'd like to use the middle mouse button to scroll in my code windows as well.

Re: Dropbox uninstall

I had a similar problem. Tried to install DropBox from the Software Manager, and it was like nothing happened. So, I then tried downloading the .deb file from DropBox.com, but it failed because of something that was changed on my system during my first unsuccessful install attempt. At that point, I ...

Re: Strange middle mouse button behavior

Is there someplace I can change the middle-click behavior? I checked mouse properties and didn't see it there.

Strange middle mouse button behavior

I'm used to using the middle mouse button and pointing stick on my Thinkpad to scroll in web browsers. I've only recently installed Mint 9 KDE, and when browsing in Firefox, when I click the middle mouse button, the browser tries to navigate to http://www.rich.carpenter. I have no idea why it would ...

Switch from Gnome to Fluxbox

I installed Fluxbox via the package manager (also ran apt-get install fluxbox at the command prompt to make sure - said the current version was already installed), but now I can't figure out how to have Fluxbox start instead of Gnome. I thought installing it would cause a window manager selection op...
