Zenity in Mint 22

Hi guys, I've been real busy but starting to get back into it. My scripts use a lot of zenity which is very helpful for nemo scripting. The April blog update for Mint 22 was a little surprising. I totally support the devs in the decisions they make, certainly we have the best desktop and libadwaita ...

Copy text / xclip replacement

Hey guys, I'm interested in helping out with Wayland testing and just came across a thought about xclip. What's the current state of clipboard support for the Wayland session in terminal? If I use a package available "wl-clipboard" in terminal then Cinnamon crashes on wl-copy: https://manp...

Re: Installer Auto-format + Timeshift default

Glad you caught it. Always pays to pause and move slow.

Something I found useful is drive size, having two drives identical in physical size it can be tricky to know if you have the right one. Whereas if there is a 1TB and 500GB or 500G and a 250G it helps me to get oriented to the right one.

[Suggestion] Build Timeshift into a Recovery Partition

Just wanna show thanks and give kudos for Timeshift. Always using a totally different drive is the way forward. I'm lucky to have two SSD's available in my PC. Using a live USB gains access to Timeshift but I think there's huge potential to build in a true ready to go recovery workflow. Anywho, it s...

I don't always timeshift my laptop but when I do, I use the microSD card slot to add some spice.

Re: Wish list for Mint 21.2+

Post install apps could be nice in the welcome screen. It doesn't have to install right there and then, there might be updates to do first etc and the welcome screen could keep a note of the desired apps and offer the install on the next login. Are you a creator? Here are some apps to consider insta...

Have gParted installed already after install

Run a live USB ... you have gParted. Install Mint to a system and reboot. gParted is gone.

Re: Fingerprint sensors #1 essential feature for adoption

Privacy issues understandable. However imagine a password-less FDE (Full Disk Encryption), you start the laptop and there's no password to enter. At this point with FDE much of the kernel hasn't even loaded, heck the disk hasn't been unencrypted so yeah that could be something a standardization grou...

Nemo could better show the directory size of the trash

Getting the size of the trash directory is pretty simple in the command line, but there seems to be no intuitive way other than select all to get this graphically via Nemo. Would be great to have the size of the directory listed in the action banner at the top of the folder and/or the icon label suc...

DisplayLink Drivers

I use DisplayLink a lot to drive multiple monitors from my laptop. Would switching to LMDE impact this as the official driver is packaged for Ubuntu? Am I better sticking with the main edition now or is it worth risking potential issues so I can help resolve them for the community? https://support.d...

"So I could make multiple desktop layouts and switch back and forth at will" ... As long as we can keep these sleep inducing customization videos, it's all good 😊 https://youtu.be/AnNx-Se9wkc?feature=shared I also think this would be highly valuable. So this feels like it would be what Cos...

Replace Mint-L with Mint-U theme variants

Modernizing the themes to support tinting in dark / light mode feels like a long term goal. It would be awesome if we could see a Mint-U theme that takes Mint-Y and adds to tinting to move us towards Material You ... "Mint You". Mint-U could recompile in the background to provide customize...

Take Timeshift Snapshot Before System Update - Automation

I've had a few updates recently go pretty bad, it would be incredibly handy to take a Timeshift snapshot before an update is applied. Even If a reboot is not needed, it may still be a good idea to log out and log back in to help judge if the update went ok. Some form of integration between the two w...

Re: Changing background of lock screen for privacy

Very surprising yeah. There is the login window option and I couldn't see a way to do it natively without a custom script. I would think it would be easy enough to provide a cinnamon setting somewhere for this as there is with the login screen. Blurring a copy of the login image to use temporarily w...

Changing background of lock screen for privacy

Thought this might be useful for others. When locking the screen in cinnamon the users background remains on the screen. I came up with a two part script when combined with a custom keyboard shortcut allows for a "secure lock". As demoed in the video, using the lock on the cinnamon menu st...
