Re: Could not grab your mouse

What I did is just recover the default Gnome menu or to install Opensuse Menu then everything works fine again. The problem appears after I first install AVG anti-virus but it still comes up even the program has already been removed.

Re: Core fonts for Firefox3 and Opera 9.5 in Elyssa

Anyway, after install the fonts.conf in your /home directory, go to the screen resolution and change the refresh rate to a bit higher value. To change Firefox's ugly rendering fonts, I have another tip here: 'After changing the fonts around on Reddit with the (mostly broken) Firebug extension, I nar...

Re: Improve Internet speed in Elyssa

Just one thing I need to state here. It may shape your broadband connection if you change default DNS in the modem/router rather than from Network-admin that does not really accelerate our speed much.

They work on my PC too. That should not be a bug at all. You should check your laptop then. :(

Re: Shortcut not working

I am so sorry for the helpless reply. But I wonder if you have made any change in Menu--Administration--Services? Because Mint did not contain any bugs like this before, I presume.

Re: Why Linux Failed at Walmart - And What to Do About It

Well, if Linux is really easy to use, it should not chase the 1% market share till. I use Linux for quite a long time and see it in fact had a lot of improvements since 2000. However, I have a feeling that Linux has missed its primary purpose, fairly, as to come for low-end computer. It sounds like ...

Re: Why Linux Failed at Walmart - And What to Do About It

Did any of you come to wal-mart and see how Linux perform side-by-side with Windows-based computers? I doubt you didn't. Even they use Ubuntu, Xandros or beautiful GUI Fedora, Linux cannot compare with Windows in terms of compatibility, easy to use and support standard. They are not because the Linu...

Re: Does it effec to Mint Elyssa?

I thought that should be different from normal updates in Synaptic as Ubuntu officially mentions it as a kind of Service Pack in Windows. If they can do the same through Synaptic, why should they ask customers to download a new .iso, have they not?

Re: internet connection freezes

If you are using Elyssa, please be aware of a slow or sudden stop internet connection bug that is similarly identified in Ubuntu 8.04. I have suggested other users to change their ISP DNS to OpenDNS for stable and reliable surfing. I have done it and see a better connection since then. Please refer ...

Re: Shortcut not working

I believe Linux shortcuts should be different from Windows. For instance, Alt-F1 is to minimize Windows but to open original menu of Ubuntu and its derivatives. You may want to visit this site for useful shortcuts availability. http://www.ubuntu-unleashed.com/2008/02/list-of-ubuntu-keyboard-shortcut...

Yes, that's right. But if you cannot update from terminal either, that should be claimed to repository system.

Does it effect to Mint Elyssa?

I heard Ubuntu has released its scheduled update called Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS to fix identified bugs. Does it has any impact on Mint Elyssa, for example, we may have the same update soon? :D

Oh, I experienced this problem exactly as you mean when I tried to drag icons from, and just from favorite menu to desktop. If you drag them straight from listed menu, that should be fine then.

Improve Internet speed in Elyssa

Anyone who uses Ubuntu or its derivative Elyssa may experience extremely low internet speed, and there is my solution: you could switch to OpenDNS that provide faster performance and more reliable surfing. I have just gotten an easy-to-learn instruction as described below: "Open Network connect...

Re: Mintupdate problem.

In the terminal you type sudo apt-get update, then you open the package manager, select the tab called Status and see if they have any Upgradable package. If not, it is unnecessary to worry about. :)

Re: False alarm of rkhunter Elyssa

Yes I know that, and already know how to fix them properly. When you access the file /etc/rkhunter.conf and compare it from both Mint Daryna and Ellysa, I found that the SCRIPTWHITELISTs are not the same. In particular, the file of Daryna has shown : Allow the specified commands to be scripts. # One...

Re: chinese IM does not work in english locale

I have no solution but wonder why you wanted to integrate this IM to English local if it has already confirmed to perform very well on Chinese version? Let try to delete unnecessary local and just keep those two English and Chinese then.
