P.S. Not an intended blogspam. Not affiliated with the link. Just too lazy posting my own opinions on Linux nowadays.

Re: Logitech Clearchat Headset No Sound

Sorry, I'd provided more details but I don't really have a special need. I'm just using the headset as a replacement speaker and I don't really care if chat works as long as I can hear sounds coming off of movies, music and most everywhere else. I also didn't scan the entire guide. I thought it was ...

Logitech Clearchat Headset No Sound

The volume controller works and registers in Mint but no sound except in a gargling soft tone when sound capture is switched to OSS. I'm following this guide but I'm not sure if I should go ahead with this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=789578 sudo apt-get install libasound2-plugins padev...

Re: Isn't VLC A Better Choice?

At least it's on the top of MintInstall. Amarok, Leafpad, SCITE, AbiWord, Non-GIMP Image Editors, GQView, PCMan, PyRoom... you get used to it. As newbie friendly as modern distroes are, the lesson remains that until remastering becomes "casual user" simple you're bound to not get your application of...

Ailurus Installed by Default (and Improved)

This seems like a no-brainer even if it's not perfect yet. Just the checkbox for the addition of extracting archives not pre-installed in Mint/Ubuntu seems like a good idea. Mint already uses 2 package managers, why not 2 MintDesktop? Maybe as a pre-caution, Mint could add additional warnings for th...

Re: Simple but Unavailable Applications for Linux

This blog article was recently created in DC: http://dottech.org/headline/12520

I doubt most of the apps aren't already available in Linux though but it is a good reminder of how to turn options into more visible GUI apps.

Make "Hide Size/Delay" Gnome Panel tweak the default

http://www.stefanoforenza.com/hide-gnome-panel-to-get-the-most/ Preview: Start the gconf editor: then browse to /apps/panel/toplevels. There you’ll find two folders: bottom_panel_screen0 and top_panel_screen0. tweak the following keys: auto_hide_size: 0 enable_animations: unchecked hide_delay: 0 unh...

Re: What's the best habit for monitoring ink levels?

Yeah, I heard about the ink detection and as soon as I did, I didn't bother finding out if there was a status monitor for my Epson printer/scanner since the model doesn't seem to be supported by mtink's database. (At least the one on Synaptic) Problem is, how can you prepare for a loss of ink when p...

What's the best habit for monitoring ink levels?

I don't think Mint 7 has an ink level monitoring app and I read in some old threads how they are unreliable.

If so, what's the best method of precaution for when printing 100+ pages on Linux?

(Solved) Monitor Flickering to a Thin Line

Followed this Guide to Set the Dual Monitor Up: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/dual-monitors-with-nvidia.html Copy-paste from #linuxmint-help: I just unlocked the screen just now and my dual monitor is messed up. (It's open but the screen is not showing and there's only a line of flickering green on it)...

I don't get it either but I figure'd since I don't know anything about security, you guys would better know what the hole is about.

How serious is this security hole in Glipper?

Just saw this in Twitter:

http://twitter.com/joeyhess/status/5576828902
just discovered a stupid security hole in glipper. World readable file + clipboard data == not good
I prefer Klipper myself but it's contantly getting errors when used in conjunction with a Virtualbox'd XP that's using Ditto.

Print/queue printing of files from a specific folder - Windows alternative: SuperDuperRoboPrinter: http://awb.dcmembers.com/ SuperDuperRoboPrinter monitors a selected direcotory and prints (and deletes if required) any files that are copied or moved there. Should be able to print most file types.

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

red-e-made, I can't speak for RichardH and I've never tried SeaMonkey 2 but as a quick reply SeaMonkey is always lighter in memory than Firefox.

I'd probably treat it as an official version of SwiftFox minus the add-ons. Of course that could be part of what makes it lighter.

Re: Possible Future Mint Browser???

Looks good.

I'm not really for Google Chrome being the main default browser of any OS but I think Chrome is a better "adware-daddy" to support Mint than Firefox just because I think less people would be offended by it outside of having Chrome pre-installed for those who don't want to.

Re: Simple but Unavailable Applications for Linux

I don't know why you're equating being PC into this. If anything the PC reply would be to use the words RTFM since the culture originally had no problem using it as a "stock" reply instead of, as you said, real dialog. The same could be applied to your post even if you don't interpret it that way. I...

Re: "Coming from Windows" quickstart guide

Oh that's not a Mint version of Firefox. Maybe I'm just being pedantic but normally that is just perceived as a Mint Branded version of Firefox and has little to do with why Firefox can't be updated. I actually don't know how that branded version of Mint works but it should be possible to support Mi...

Re: Simple but Unavailable Applications for Linux

Those applications are much closer to Phrase Express on Windows than TFLM. That's getting too picky for me.. I can't help anymore, since you seem to be asking for the exact same program that is available on windows : that won't happen, unless the developer of that program offered it as a cross-plat...
