I beleive my drive is just dead. I booted on a live flash drive of LinuxMint 9 and the drive still doesnt work. I'll get and upgrade for it at some point.

well i looked at it close and the ppa lines is for gnome-do. i uninstalled it cause I didn't like it, and just deleted the lines all together. and haven't really had problems.

maybe you should be mounting /dev/cdrom2, I was thinking they started at 0. Also you could try /dev/sr1, /dev/cdrw2 or /dev/scd1.
mounting all of these? should i create the folders under the media folder as well?

It is now able to recognize there is media in the drive. it just doesnt mount it to be able to see the data on the disk. we made some progress.

i have a logitech laptop camera 905 and asked logitech for support and they said that they didnt support my camera model in linux. through the skype video settings i can get the video i just cant use the microphone or the video in a call.

I have added those lines and restarted. now my drive just hangs there with the status light solid. in the /dev/ folder i have a "cdrom1", "cdrom2", and "cdrw2" files. also scd0, scd1, sr0 and sr1. If that helps. throwing ideas out cause i know nothing about how this wor...
