Re: Wifi fails authenticating; No sound from speakers

More Googling seems to show that the ath9k driver provided by Atheros is just buggy. I found an old USB wifi connector, and it worked right off the bat. I'll just get a newer, more compact USB connector as a work-around. Hope this helps. -- Edit: For others' benefit: I can connect fine to an open ho...

[SOLVED] Wifi fails authenticating; No sound from speakers

Hello I've tried several Linux distros, including Mint 18 Mate, and they all had the same problems: It displays a list of wifi hotspots, but fails authenticating (my home hotspot uses WPA) There's sound through headphones but not through speakers FWIW, it's an Asus EeePC 1001PXD, an old notebook fro...

Re: Create persistent USB live system for Mint 14 KDE

Hello Since this thread is from 2013, I wanted to check in case things changed between then and now (Aug 2014). Using Rufus , a friend successfully burned a USB keydrive with the 64-bit Mint Cinnamon ISO file . However, Rufus doesn't support persistence * so that my friend loses all the changes made...

Mini ISO to install from the Net?

Hello

I need to install Linux Mint on a PC that has no CD/DVD drive.

The Download section contains no link to a mini ISO to boot from a USB keydrive and perform a netinstall.
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Does it mean Linux Mint can only be installed from a CD/DVD player?

Thank you.

[SOLVED] [13 Maya] Picture slideshow? Update system?

Hello I have a couple of things to do before giving a friend her laptop back now that it has Linux Mint 13: 1. Find an application so she can connect a USB key and view pictures in a slide show: What Mint-compatible application would you recommend? XP has a slideshow feature in its file manager, but...

Localized live editions?

Hello I must provide my users with a live USB keydrive to recover from a failed computer. The OS must be localized in French, ie. the UI and the keyboard. As Linux Mint doesn't seem to provide localized editions, I tried " iso-localize " on linuxmint-12-lxde-cd-32bit.iso, which displayed a few error...

Re: Localizing an ISO?

Temporary mounts: If you see errors mentioning /proc and permissions and the tool hangs, simply reboot your computer. Alternatively, check the mounted filesystems using "mount" and umount the ones related to iso-localize manually. Indeed, I get a bazillion "Operation not permitted", although I'm ro...

Localizing an ISO?

Hello Although Mint supports a bunch of languages, the default language for the ISO to build a bootable USB keydrive is English for UI + keyboard. For my English-challenged users, I need to change this to French, so that all the UI is in French right from when they boot off their computer from the k...

Re: [USB keydrive] Gnome12 OK, LXDE12 NOK

Found what it was: I was so used to choosing "Linux Mint 12 CD", that I missed the new item "Linux Mint 12 LXDE CD". Choosing an item that doesn't exactly match the ISO seems to prevent the USB key from booting, even if the build process reports no error.

Thanks for the tip. No, I didn't think about checking Wikipedia or the Document section to understand why Mint is available in several different versions.

[SOLVED] [USB keydrive] Gnome12 OK, LXDE12 NOK

Hello Using the same USB keydrive on the same test laptop using the same application (Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.8.4.exe) to burn the ISO file, linuxmint-12-gnome-cd-nocodecs-32bit.iso boots OK while linuxmint-12-lxde-cd-32bit.iso is stuck at "SYSLINUX 3.86". I burned it a second time, same result....

[SOLVED] [site] Differences between versions?

Hello, I'm posting this in the forum since the e-mails in the "Contact" section aren't meant to send suggestions to the webmaster. I was trying to find whether Mint is available in localized versions (eg. UI and keyboard support for French, as my users aren't comfortable with English), but didn't fi...

Re: Why space before/after partition? Localized live image?

Apparently , it's pretty easy to check if a new partition is created on a start sector number that is aligned for use with Advanced Disk format (8 * 512 = 4096): "Take each start sector number and divide by 8: There should be no remainder, for any of the partitions" Using Windows' Calculator, enter...

Re: Why space before/after partition? Localized live image?

Creating a partition that starts at sector 0 is not possible, because that's where the partition table resides. Is this where the MBR, ie. boot loader + partition table, lives? attempting to start a partition before something in the neighborhood of sector 60 (or possibly even later) would cause eit...

Why space before/after partition? Localized live image?

Hello I used Linux Mint 12 on a USB keydrive and installed Mint on the hard disk, and have a couple of questions: 1. Is there a localized (French) image of the live distro, or is it only available in English? Some of my users aren't comfortable with English and would really need a localized UI 2. Af...

Re: [wifi] Intel Link 5100 + connection to hotspot?

FWIW, I successfully logged on by booting with a Fedora 14 USB keydrive.

So it's definitely a Mint problem. As I have the same issue with Chromium and Firefox, it looks like a network and/or browser issue.

Re: [wifi] Intel Link 5100 + connection to hotspot?

Thanks for your help. This is the first time I'm trying to use wifi with Linux, and am no expert with Mint either. Here's the output of standard commands: http://www.pastebin.com/F88kpWTz The Intel seems to be connected to the "FreeWifi" remote, user-accessible hotspot, which is actually run by my I...

[wifi] Intel Link 5100 + connection to hotspot?

Hello (I actually wanted to post in the "Networking" section, but for some reason, the "New Topic" button isn't displayed over there.) I just successfully installed Linux Mint 10 on an Acer laptop with an "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN, REV=0x54" which seems OK . The problem is that after successfully...
