Re: Where do I read more about what's coming up Linux Mint 1
There probably won't be much official information about it until closer to the release of Ubuntu 11.10. Of course if Mint moves more towards a Debian only base that could change.

Re: Mint 11 KDE development
I'm cautiouisly optimistic about this change. I like the idea of the rolling release, but hope that it doesn't affect the functionality I've been used to with Ubuntu based KDE. I think for the long-term health of Mint as a whole this is a good move. Sure part of the popularity has been being based o...

Re: Linux Mint 11 KDE
Usually they try to make the KDE version stand on its own. Why make it look like Gnome? I don't see the point in that. Though it is true most of the other versions do emulate the Gnome look, I'm glad KDE departs from it and goes it's own way (though you can of course change the theme regardless of y...

Re: a quick mention about "fix broken packages" on updateman
What I do when that shows up is use the terminal for my updates. This will also specifically tell me which ones are causing the "fix broken packages" error. I believe that error is because there is some reason even though the packages are in the update, they aren't compatible (I could be wrong). Any...

Re: Disable overlay scrollbars in Katya?
No global menu in Mint 11 since it uses the Gnome prior to 3 (forget release #).
I'm curious if KDE will adopt the overlay scrollbars since I rather like the screen space that type of bar helps create. Since I have a scroll mouse, most bars are useless wastes of space.

Re: Linux Mint 10 KDE released!
It would be better to start your own thread on these problems, no everyone is likely to see it buried in a thread about KDE being released.
I wish I had answers for you but sorry I do not.

Re: How to setup Firefox 4 in Mint
That's a lot to do when all you need to do is add the repository and have the system do an update. Much quicker and less hassle. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable Then perform update. Your directions may help for those who use LMDE perhaps though since the above requires being U...

Re: Windows 7 VS Linux mint 10 kde STARTUP TIME!
on my machine MintKDE 10 does take a bit longer to get to the login screen than Win7 (not timing it), however in the long run MintKDE10 still works out better for me. It has a usuable desktop nearly right away, where Win7 stills keeps going loading stuff up. Also one big plus for me is KDE will load...

Re: Firefox 4 for Mint
I have noticed a difference in speed for sure. Now that I figured out how to get the URL bar next to the tabs it is looking real nice. Kinda disappointed my theme won't work anymore but that is to be expected, I'm sure it will be fixed soon. I like the tab pinning as well. Mighty fine release.

Re: What makes you want to try Linux in the first place?
While I usually had no trouble with Windows, I was getting sick of dealing with viruses, things slowing down the OS, etc. Windows 7 I admit I really did like and still have on a partition, but at the same time I felt limited. So I had tried Linux once before and figured maybe this time I'd take the ...

Re: Connecting to HDTV with HDMI port
Yup those directions should help you. I have my TV hooked up to my PC via HDMI and have no trouble getting a picture on it with my Nvidia graphics card, 9400GT. I didn't have to do anything special except setup the X-Sever settings for Nvidia. My only issue is some programs stick to opening on that ...

Re: Mark Shuttleworth, the idiot of the century
I actually think its an interesting idea having the scroll bars that way. They do constantly take up room and especially since I have a scroll mouse I don't waste time going over to the scroll bar, I use the scroll on the mouse. I do disagree with the one-line scroll, but hopefully that functionalit...

Re: Update Manager Fix Broken Packages
One thing I have discovered is that often you get the "fix broken packages" message because there are packages that are being held back even though they show up in the list. It would be nice if MintUpdate could figure out what to do in those situations. I have been updating through terminal to get t...

Re: Replace Grub by Burg?
Despite the fact that using Linux we do not see a bootloader often, I agree that it would be an easy way for Mint to differentiate itself by including Burg. I have been tempted to try it, but just concerned because it doesn't seem that user friendly to install. It also didn't appear to update when y...

Re: Linux Mint with Gnome3??
I believe it was stated somewhere that Mint 11 main would stick with the regular Gnome interface and not be using Gnome 3 out of the "box". However it certainly will be possible to add it from the packages (as well as Unity if you want it).

Re: Pre-install Welcome Screen
You would want to download the OEM version then. Its on the downloads page.
http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php
Just pick 32-bit or 64-bit and off you go.
There is only a Gnome version, so if you prefer a different version you are out of luck.

Re: Upgrade Mint 10 to Mint 10 KDE: is it easily possible?
Do you mean upgrade the Gnome (Main) version to KDE? If so, while they both can exist together, some report oddities and things not always working well. Also you may have duplicate programs if you add KDE to the Gnome version. If you meant upgrade Mint 9 KDE to Mint 10 KDE, it can be done by adding ...

I just installed this a week ago. I went to HP's site and in the support section, finally found links for Linux drivers and directions on how to install and compile it. It was pretty easy to do.

Re: HP Deskjet 1000 j110
I just got an HP printer and I went to HP's site to download the drivers for Linux. The one's included with Mint may not be the most up to date ones for your model (wasn't in my case and on LM KDE 10). I found it worked like a charm to follow those directions.

Glad you like it, but not sure why you had to go post the whole install sequence (at least assume that's what it is lol)
