Re: Automatic Updates..?

I think it's pretty lame that Mint doesn't do auto-upgrade. Especially for us monkeys that just push the auto-upgrade button every day for levels 1-3. The unattended-upgrades solution has no knowledge of Mint's upgrade levels. I think we really need a solution that can do upgrades based on the Mint ...

Not sure what I did, but I tried switching to seamless mode again... and it worked!

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Apparently, the only issue was evince. I forced it to remove, then installed the new one. After rebooting, Gnome started in fallback mode. To fix this, you have to enable 3D acceleration in the VBox display settings (I believe it's unchecked by default). I already had the display memory set to the m...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Hmm.... was gonna try this out in a virtualbox the other day by installing on top of testing similar to GregE (via cloning an up-to-date LMDE-XFCE vbox) but kept running into unmet dependencies with libconf2 or some such. Thought I'd try the same thing again today but now the issue is with libevince...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE installed on Omni Book 4150 PII Laptop

I think you can install whatever window manager you want in the normal way (Synapsis) and then you can select the manager at the login screen ("session").

Re: Can screenlets work in Windows?

Yeah, I know this isn't a Windows forum. But what kind of response would I get in a windows forum.... "uuuuh (scratching butt).... what's a screenlet?? ...what's Linux??? ...what's gtk????" At least people here know what both a screenlet and windows is :/ I tried to find a forum for screenlets but f...

Can screenlets work in Windows?

I was working on a screenlet and now I'm wondering if there's a way to use it on Windows.
Installing python on windows is easy. GTK, etc seems to be a bit more difficult to get working.

Re: Mint 9 LXDE remote login

Thanks, that was the trick.
The first time I tried it, it timed out, but it worked on the second try. The second time, I included the full path (/usr/bin/startmintlxde) -- kind of doubt that would make any difference though.

Mint 9 LXDE remote login

I use NoMachine's NX software for remote access to the Linux box. I am able to start up specific programs by inserting the appropriate startup command. However, I haven't been able to figure out how to start the LXDE desktop. Under Gnome (gdm) with LXDE also installed, I have previously used the com...

Re: Progress...

Very nice. What is the intended method for filesharing on a network? I went to Preferences > Sharing, but it (shares-admin) only knows about NFS. I need to share with Windows computers, too. I messed around a bit with pyNeighborhood, but it failed scanning. It wouldn't let me add pcmanfm to the file...

Re: LXDE Clock settings

Programming-wise, it's not correct to call it a kludge. There are a lot of things that might predicate using two digits instead of four, depending on what kind of program it is, what kind of resources are available, etc. Instead of a kludge, you might also call it a reduction in processing cycles (i...

Re: LXDE on Linux Mint Main Edition

How to install LXDE on Linux Mint Main Edition Some of the theming of the Gnome edition and the LXDE edition conflict with each other. It's possible to keep the files but both can't ben installed at the same time in the package manager. Choose one of the below options and follow the optional steps ...

Re: LXDE on Linux Mint Main Edition

So basically 1-2 months after Main beta is released.... it might be worthwhile for somebody to install LXDE over a main edition. If I end up doing it, i'll post the steps. That was the main point of this topic, anyway. There's already an progress topic on this forum that is updated fairly regularly ...

LXDE on Linux Mint Main Edition

I'm glad to see someone working on a LXDE edition. I have LXDE running on the Main Helena edition shortly after it was released. I spent quite a while messing around with Fluxbox, LXDE, etc so I don't remember how I got it working. Does someone have some steps for that? A Google search didn't turn u...

I checked a few other mirrors and they aren't up yet. torrent is faster. only 2 seeders, but more peers are coming on, so speed is 150k-300k.

Re: Helena KDE CE update

My dad had QuickVerse back in the DOS days. He's been using e-Sword for several years and I use it occasionally. I see they have the online version up now (http://live.e-sword.net/). If you google, there seems to be plenty of people who use e-Sword on Linux via Wine. I'm not sure how it stacks up ag...

Re: Helena KDE CE update

First post... "other distros are already chipping away to their next release..."
Second post... "...its better if we don't discuss what other distros are upto"

HMMMMM
Yeah, ok, let's NOT discuss those other distros then, at least not in this thread.

Three cheers for the Mint team!!!
