Re: KDE and GTK

You mean the Mint version of KDE? That's based on Ubuntu and I have straight Debian,if that's what you were referring to. :)

And yeah,I googled Kmint and didn't come up with anything. So sorry.

KDE and GTK

I've installed KDE 4.6 SC2 (the semi-official KDE package,it's an experimental package but it seems pretty stable to me,far more stable than the 4.4.5 version Debian currently supports). My biggest gripe is running gnome apps as GTK programs look terrible on KDE. I've read about the Oxygen-GTK theme...

Re: Update Firefox

I just used the Ubuntu daily build PPA to install the beta and I'll be using the stable PPA once FF4 is officially released. I know Ubuntu and Debian have a binary compatibility issue although the dependencies are the same. However,I doubt you would break your system if you used Ubuntu repositories f...

Re: Update Firefox

I have seen some threads in the LMDE section of the forum where people gave advice about updating firefox by running it with root privileges so I know the option existed at one point in time. Was it only available for the 32 bit version? The update button is missing entirely, not just grayed out. I w...

Re: Update Firefox

I use chromium on a daily basis. I was however hoping to update to FF 4.0 as soon as it was available.Internal updates may break something (although it hasn't happened before) and that's fine; the fact that I can't update firefox this way is causing me distress.

Update Firefox

How would you go about updating firefox in LMDE? When I used the 32 bit version I seem to remember firefox allowing me to update to a new version through its internal mechanism,if I ran it with root privileges. Now it seems the only way to update it would be to wait for it to hit the mint repos ? :)...

LibreOffice start error

I installed LibreOffice using the .deb files plus the desktop integration .deb files and when I try to open any office program I get the following error : LibreOffice 3.3:Fatal error The application cannot be started. [context="bundled"] caught unexpected exception! I tried searching for a solution ...

Re: firefix

sudo apt-get remove --purge firefox
You could also try : Menu-Internet-Firefox-right click-uninstall :) (works for any application,really).

Re: No desktop after last update (Solved)

Well,I guess that's it then.Maybe fglrx will work with future updates of the liquorix kernel.I know that you don't "need" to update the kernel, that a stable version is more suited even if it's a bit older.I just like to have bleeding edge technology (which seems to be a daunting task on Debian :) )....

Re: No desktop after last update (Solved)

I tried running aticonfig --initial as root but the window manager won't load.I'm running 2.6.35 with no problem but it seems the new kernel has some issues. Is there a program I can use to trace the problem and forward the log to damentz (I hope I spelled his name right :) )? Or should I wait for h...

Hmm,it seems my menu icons have vanished. The rest of the features seem to work fine.Hopefully they will update the menu soon so there won't be anymore bugs.

Re: Mint 10 Features in LMDE

What do you mean by the Mint repository? deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import Is this the right one? This will contain Mint 10's features so we'll have them by doing a regular update? Sorry if the question seems too noobish,I was just thinking that this package refers to th...

Window Snapping

Has anyone managed to make the window snapping function work in LMDE? I've installed compiz fusion and the extras from synaptic and I'm running metacity as the default window manager.I've followed the steps presented in the ubuntu tutorial: http://www.clickonf5.org/linux/use-aero-snap-windows7-featu...

Thank you for your replies but it seems that Linux was malfunctioning as after I restarted a few times natulis was able to display the contents without any issues.
Still, the topic might help others in need. :)

Thanks,I'll have to try it when I bring my laptop back home. Trouble connecting

Hello. I have an issue with Linux Mint. I am a student and I live on the college campus where we have a PPPoE connection. That is,you are given a username and password, and the DHCP server assigns your IP and DNS based on them. I have had no trouble with the connection on the campus,I use the "pppoeco...

View Windows partition

I have a small problem.I updated my packages through the Mint updater and now I can't seem to be able to view items in my windows partition (I have 2 of them, the first one with the OS,the second with various files). I seemed to be able to view them just fine a day ago but now I can only see 2 items:...

That didn't work either.I couldn't install the 1.0.6 version from a tar file because I keep getting errors about missing libraries. I found the following advice in the vlc forums: start vlc from a console with : ulimit -c unlimited && vlc -vvv --reset-plugins-cache if it crash attach the core file i...
