Re: Mint 10 theme feedback

I also like the new icon set as well. Hopefully the devs can pull the rest of the theme together over time and we will have some nice eye candy.

Mint 10 theme feedback

I have been playing with Mint 10 RC today and I wanted to pass along some feedback on the new theme. I really feel like this theme is a step backwards for Mint. I'll provide some bullet points below. * There is so much inconsistency... Many things are now is grayscale/metal, and there are still remn...

Another Customized Google Search Problem: Tracking numbers

I love Linux Mint. The one thing that I have always had a problem with the Mint's customized Google search. While it has improved over time, I still dislike it for several reasons. I won't rehash all of these since most of them have already been discussed. Today, however, I discovered another reason...

Re: Dell e6410 and Nvidia NVS 3100M

I downloaded and successfully installed 2.6.33 and 2.6.34 from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ neither of which would work with the Nvidia drivers. I'm following along with a bug on Launchpad for this. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/55687...

Dell e6410 and Nvidia NVS 3100M

Just got my new Dell e6410 laptop with Nvidia NVS 3100M graphics card. Unfortunately, this new hardware is not compatible with Linux Mint 8. After installing the Nvidia drivers (as prompted by the restricted hardware driver manager) the system reboots into a blank screen. Currently, I am only able t...

I agree. The principal of least privilege keeps Unix/Linux/BSD's kung fu strong. Although, you should always keep your Windows systems updated with the latest patches.

Re: Make Gnome Shell the Default GUI in Mint 9

Love your last one. You're suggesting those that don't want it just stay back, and go without any update. Selfish prat. So you would prevent people from having the option to choose it at all? You're the selfish one. See option 1 and 2. I'm saying give people a choice at install. Plus, you might as ...

Re: Make Gnome Shell the Default GUI in Mint 9

Not interested. I want something i can use, not something i need to learn all over again. What about people who don't want Gnome Shell? [/color] Well there are several ways to address this: 1. The installer could have a ratio option to use the Gnome shell or the classic Gnome desktop. 2. Make it ea...

Re: nautilus crashes when renaming files

Mmmm, had this happen to me at random, is puzzling when it happens, no rhyme or reason. Doesn't always happen when renaming, not really given it much thought til i read your post. But yes, i can confirm this does occur at times. Annoying, but nothing I can't work around. Used to dealing with much w...

Restart and try again. On the live CD boot screen select the options menu (I think it is F6) and then use the safe mode graphics option.

Make Gnome Shell the Default GUI in Mint 9

Let's face it, Gnome Shell is coming. Noting will stop that. If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. It is awesome. This is why I am proposing that Mint should make the Gnome Shell the default user interface in Mint 9. What about people who don't want Gnome Shell? Well there are several way...

Re: lxde slow to startup

Never used LXDE, but check your /etc/resolv.conf file for valid DNS servers and /etc/hosts to make sure your hostname and localhost are listed in them. I've seen this fix the problem you describe in the past.

Good luck.

Re: Minty Chat with Mr. Clement Lefebvre

Interesting read. I like a lot of the things he's doing with Mint. I've moved away from Ubuntu to part of the "Mint Movement". I think Ubuntu has lost focus on things that are important. I appreciate the innovations that Ubuntu has contributed to Linux, but I need simplicity and stability ...

Re: Grub 2 - what have we gained?

If you think it's a bug you might want to report it or it may never get fixed. I'm with you in that I don't think we have gained much with Grub2 at this point. There are some things in it that will be useful down the line; but it's adoption was a little early IMHO.

Re: Install/partitioning advice for 250G drive?

I like the idea of using one large file system for /. Others like to make a separate /home. At a minimum I would keep / at 10GB. 15-20GB would be a safer number if you plan on installing a lot of apps. The rest can go to /home. Don't forget to have a swap space equal to the amount of RAM you have in...
