Re: No external display HP Laptop after upgrade
Yes, it works but only for a while. I left my monitor "on" (sleep) when I shutdown my laptop. This reoccurrence may have been related to another kernel upgrade. Since plugging into the DVD "fixes" the monitor, it must be doing something that Linux is not. Too bad there is not a H...

Re: No external display HP Laptop after upgrade
Just happened again! The cure was to plug the Samsung monitor into a cheap DVD player, then the laptop. Plugging into a Raspberry pi did not help. Plugging the TV into the laptop worked, but did not restore the monitor to working! This must be some kind of init that the DVD does that linux does not.

Re: No external display HP Laptop after upgrade
Sounds like a "firmware" problem in Samsung. I wonder if there is an update path? If not, short sighted by Samsung.

NTFS fragmentation?
I moved my USB drive from windows to Linux, copy a large number of video files, then moved it back to windows. It was fragmented. There was a pattern to it. It seemed that data was spread out every xx? many blocks and free space in between. Is this due to linux ntfs driver? I have a screen capture o...

Re: Firefox upgrade jan 7 BROKEN [SOLVED]
NOT rhetorical. Usually on both windows and Linux, When I restart FF, it will install the new version then bring up FF. Which is what it did after the restart. I've never had to restart to upgrade FF before. I think something flacky was going on. I was having trouble with keys not responding at time...

scan to PDF and create form - Typewriter
I want to scan in a paper form and turn it into a PDF form, so I can fill it out, like I was using a typewriter.
It looks like a windows software from Nuance, PDF Converter Professional 6, does this. Is there a Linux GPL that does this?
I tried PDFedit, but could not get it to work, so far.

[Solved] Mint 7->8 (KDE->Gome) No headphones HP/Compaq
I've been running Mint since 6. I wanted to upgrade to Mint 8, tired of waiting for KDE 8, so I did Gnome. All went well so far. I installed the binary video. HOWEVER, like once before the headphone jack does not cut out the speakers or activate the headphones! This was most embarrassing as I was do...

Laptop Bios Options

Re: Solution for Atheros AR 5006 / 5007 Cards
The questions is will the new version of madwifi be in a future version soon?
Ubuntu 8.04 is scheduled for April 24, 2008. Mint (??)
I am using (2weeks) a Compaq F756NR with a 5007 card.
The other problem is I can't get graphics except with vesa driver, and therefore can't use VGA connector?
